The Treatment of Contestants
MACTOWIN
09-05-2012
It just shows you the way the show sets up the contestants the way the want without consideration for what's best for them. As an example Paige confirmed in the press today that she was told what song to sing and it was not her choice, she also told the producers she was scared of heights and they shoved her about 20 feet in the air. How to make a contestant feel comfortable not I dont think that is the way they should be treating a 14 year old.

It's not the first time it's been reported that the singers don't get to choose their songs...

That Scottish guy who was forced to sing 'Imagine'.
The girl on piano (Jessica?) who was blatantly forced to sing 'Single Ladies' - her face said it all
Paige
Molly Rainford - singing the same version of It Must Have Been Love that Drew Ryniewicz sang on USXF, more than likely pressed on her. Fortunately for her, it worked.

That couple who were forced to sing Teenage Dream which I said at the time couldn't have been their choice, then sure enough on BGMT they said as much.

It's a sad state of affairs really.

Happens every year that certain contestants are treated like this.

Remember Per Diem? Two lads who worked in a supermarket singing duo. They were clearly very upset on their live show. They were buzzed by Amanda and Simon. Afterwards it came out that they were made to swap roles of lead singer and guitar player at the last minuite - which wasnt how they ever performed. They were told to sing the song. Ant/Dec try and make out they were upset about the buzzes. I thought they werre treated so badly.

Last year there was a girl told to sing Beyonce, who was then critised for doing so. Same story with several past acts, if they dont want them in the final then they make things difficult for them.

Oh my god, that Per Diem tape is excruciating to watch - they were doing fine until Amanda Holden buzzed them for no reason.

I could well imagine the producers on that show being complete and utter idiots! They obviously mustn't have wanted her to perform at the best of her ability.....for some strange reason.

I am sure that they have a list they want in the final and it's obvious to me she was not on their short list.

Wow that is shocking. I thought the singing was really good. Makes you realise Amanda and all the judges are happy to join in this rigmarole just to make an enormous buck and f##k the contestants. It really is a sad state of affairs and ironic really as if ITV, other broadcasting companies can be inerted here, just put on a decent talent show with good people and minus the sob story they'd probably get the viewers. PS I'm not referring to The Voice because as much as I like it, it has a lot of issues itself.

That's what struck me as well when Simon said to her "it was a poor choice of song".

Blame those in charge of the show Simon, not the contestant who doesn't get a say in it!

going back to Per Diem I vaguely remember at the time Simon saying on BGMT that producers picked the song from a shortlist Per Diem gave them. So they had picked it but it wasnt their first choice

Did the producers make Paige sing a song she didn't want? I can't find anything that suggests that.

I don't think it's just singing acts that are told what to sing, I think it's all the acts that are 'advised' on what to do in the semi-final. Like the dance acts, 99% of the time they don't choose the music they dance to. I think it's wrong when the acts get bashed for their choices when it's the producers that have chosen for them.
