Hi,

I'm just wondering if there are any shops or sites that allow you to buy an iPad and pay it back using monthly installments.

Thanks in advance.

Try the catalogue places like Littlewoods – or Argos if you can get the Argos card you could pay off in parts.

Although my advice is to put instalments in the bank and then when you have enough in go and buy the latest one.

Bit of a change from the cheapest Android Tablet possible as well!

Apple offer financing options, as do most (if not all) of the major high street retailers that stock it.

Or catalogues as said, but you'll more than likely end up paying more that way.

Your mobile network is the modern day 'Provi' so am sure many of them do it.

If you need to go into debt to actually buy one you should ask serious questions as to why you need it.

It is possible to get it on instalments. Some of the mobile networks even provide them on contract I believe. However if funds are limited, wouldn't a lower priced tablet be more suitable? There are plenty of fairly decent ones around.

I got mine with Apple financing, don't really see it as 'going into debt' because I could easily have bought it outright but I think it's better to pay a bit each month rather than 500 odd quid all at once.

Did you have to pay a first installment of £29 or was it more?

They include a data plan (15GB pm) so may not be what you need, if you are mainly using it at home or where there is already WiFi. £99/£169/£249 + (24x£29) http://www.three.co.uk/Store/Mobile_...d/The_new_iPad

If you don't own it then it's a debt until it's paid off.

Do they charge interest?

yes it was £99.00 upfront, I don't think it's a bad deal.

Yeah but it's not a 'debt' that I'll struggle to pay. Just didn't want to spend the full amount outright. And I think interest depends on length of repayments/amount borrowed and mine isn't a lot so it's worth it for me. I might've spent the 500 plus quid and then needed it for something in the future but then wouldn't have had it cos I spent it on an iPad. Plus it's not really any different than paying monthly for a smartphone.

Why pay interest on a debt if you can afford to pay it off in one go ? that's totally illogical as you will end up paying much more for it over the period.

As someone said earlier in the thread an iPad is a luxury item and If you want one then save up or if you can afford it buy it outright.

Paying a tiny bit more and still having money in the bank sounds better to me, 'much more' would be Littlewoods or a Bright House type place. I honestly don't see the issue, you don't see people forking out hundreds for a smartphone, they get it on contract, and then do it all again at the end of the contract. Same with loads of other items.

Smart phone/mobile contracts are often subsidised by the operators so the phone companies can lock you in, so it's not really the same thing. Some contracts can be reasonable deals that work well for some. Personally I got my htc evo 3d phone outright and use giffgaff as it works out cheaper and I don't get locked into a contract.

However I still can't understand why you would buy an iPad on finance credit if you can afford to buy it outright. Do you have some sort of magic savings account that pays out more interest than the finance interest ?

I don't really understand it either. Much better to pay for it all then you don't have to think about paying any additional money. I personally don't do credit on any luxury/ extravagant goods, I either save up for it or go without.

Just to keep everyone in the loop, i've decided to go for the iPad 2 16gb. I went for it mainly because the iPad 3 - the third generation - had so few things new to it, except a marginally better camera, 4G capability (not available in the UK and won't be for some time) and a retina display, which I wouldn't need because i'm not a gamer.

I got mine from Orange (am an existing customer with an iPhone 4), so only had to pay a 99p delivery charge and for a 24 month Orange contract with a 10GB 3G allowance is costing me £30 a month. The Ipad 3rd generation would have been £35 a month on Orange - and I didn't think warranted the extra £60 a year for little more than an Ipad 2 with a marginally better display.

I contacted 3 and they were less than helpful on the phone, they wanted an up-front fee of £69 and then £25 a month after that - plus reading reviews of 3's 3G coverage, a lot of people were less than impressed. Also, i'm an Orange customer already, have been for over 10 years and have always been happy with their 3G coverage in the UK.

So that's what I went for in the end.

I am with you on this. If you have the money in the bank, you have to be nuts to get it on a finance plan that isnt interest free.

£720 for a piece of kit you could get for about £259 (£359 with 3G) direct from Apple (refurb. Nothing wrong with their refurbs, though)!

Mate of mine picked one up a couple of weeks back, just uses a £5 monthly data sim from Giffgaff which he's happy with. Over 24 months the total cost will come to £400. I got one and just use it over wifi.

£720 for the lowest spec iPad2 is bonkers. Your money though...
