Wow thanks for that Nebo, I had absolutely no idea it was like that!

Now we have a number of people wanting to take part I think we should start on Monday, but I've been thinking about we go about it, and here are three options

1. We use the traditional format, watching each episode in the order it was transmitted

2. Each week we watch a story from a different doctor, for example we watch the first Hartnell story next week, the first Troughton story the week after etc That way, if long standing fans are taking part and there is a particular era that they're not keen on they only have a week to wait before they can take part again.

3. Group the stories by theme, for example we watch Unearthly child and then maybe watch the Dalek stories, followed by the Cyberman stories, the Sontaran stories etc.

So I'm now going to open it up everyone, how would you like to proceed? I'm not going to say what my particular favourite is and if anyone else has an idea it would be lovely to hear it (after all its not a dictatorship!), so, over to you!

I'm pretty easy, but maybe story from each doctor each week might keep people more interested? Also those that only want to start with later Doctors then could join in earlier rather than wait for weeks?

Can I just ask, when we say first episode, we mean first available episode?

Just been considering the options and because there are so many Troughton episodes for which only recons are available it might get a bit tiresome/frustrating for some of the newer fans to sit through them week after week, a doctor a week would be a way to break that up.

Lets just see how everyone feels after watching the first story next week, at least it gives us all chance to think about it.

Already watched them all, sweetmouth, and just waiting for the comments to start rollin' in. Dedicated fan, me, so can I have a badge or something? Just to let everyone know that I'm, well, special.

Can it really be like that though? Cos there's not only the region code but also PAL versus NTSC, which is a different frames-per-second rate and number of lines in the picture. The code-free players have a built-in converter, or so I understand.

I had a region locking player once that showed the tally counts. As a way of letting you know that you're just about to lock-in.

But it is another factor. I've had a box that was supposedly for the UK market but when I used the secret back door accidentally leaked by the manufacturer it played region 1 disks ok. However now I think of it the picture quality was very dodgy on some films.

So yes - you could be in the position of locking your region-rules-honouring player to a region that can't play the films. unless for players that don't support region 1 they don't let themselves lock to it, as a common sense measure.

Not an expert, as you can see.

Once upon a time you used to have to put a code into some players to play Region 1 dvds, that might not be the case these days though. I'm sure a more knowledgeable soul will come along and put me right
Thanks Hallam so I get the cheaper one - what a bargain!

Thanks Nebog, sounds like I'll be fine.

_______

So are we seeing how we feel and how this thread goes after watching the first one before we decide whether to do it in chronological order or jump around doctors. I had fancied watching them in order tbh.

I've never seen the Unearthly Child and I avoid spoilers like the plague, question is..will I be able to resist watching just one episode per week!!

Gonna be good chatting on here about the episodes

Don't worry about shortening my username, everyone round here just calls me Hammy

Do you mean episode or story? I think there might be some confusion if we're not careful.

one story a week might be the way to go, but if it's a particularly long story (say 8/10 episodes) then I'm sure we can make allowances and stretch it over 2 weeks

I'm getting more and more excited about it by the day!

Having watched a long string of Troughton recons in order just last year, I must say I get much closer to the show by doing them in sequence (option 1). Really feel the sadness when a companion leaves, or the excitement of a new Doctor, that sort of thing. Tiggs would probably tell you the same...

Good point!

So we now have 2 definite votes for option 1. I better keep a running total somewhere!

Ah, I had thought it meant episode, but the suggestion is we watch a story, so unearthly child is a few episodes long isn't it...Sorry I haven't done this before So do we set a particular day by which to have watched it, or just join the thread when we've watched them - presumably that. It's going to be like watching a new series for me

Same here!

That's correct. The plan is to start the week on a Monday, and you have until the following Sunday to have watched it and post any comments you have, but you can post them at any time you like in that week, the following Monday we start on the next one. How's that sound?

Hey What are 'recons' ?something about missing episodes or something? I'm planning on getting all the officialy released ones, probably from play.com. I'm abit OCD about watching things in order

Hey! Recons are reconstructions using the surviving soundtracks, sometimes animated but most often done with stills (telesnaps) made from the episodes as they were broadcast. For me the best recons are the ones from Loose Cannon (www.recons.com), which they will copy on DVD for you if you send them the blank discs and the postage.

Spoiler

For the stories where only one or two episodes survive, those episodes have been released on the Lost in Time discs (except for the ones that were just recovered last year).

Thanks CoalHill, ah I see. We don't need to worry about the first 13 stories though right - or are some missing from The Beginnings Boxset? :O

Nope, those 13 episodes are thankfully all still with us. But the next story is entirely missing.
