youve got MORE options not less, no one can see your facebook and you can post both in the forums AND on the main site now good grief the way you lot are moaning you'd think someone was taking something from you not giving you even MORE and protecting your facebook now from having to be seen when you comment on main stories, for those of you moaning about facebook that should make you very happy not whiny..

Pet1968: Someone ased why Facebook was being linked in with Digital Spy...some of us explained. I don't think people are getting whiney they are just a bit comcerned about privacy and separation of sites.

You added to the information to allay fears - I didn;t read you post as a rant just info with a bit of bite towards people.

Youre probably right, its just easy enough to figure out if people checked it out for themselves rather than assumimg their being forced into using facebook etc you know?

I disagree with you on this one, normaly I'd be part of the 'just look it up yourself' however the way in which Facebook, Hotmail, Gmail seems to be able to pull contacts and stuff from each other is enough to make someone worried and there is nothing I can easily see on DigitalSpy to explain the implication sof the changes.

If the DS staff could put a stick thread up explaining how one can keep Facebook and Digital Spy separate for those who want to it would save a lot of unecessary worry by people.

I'm finding that the easy option is to use the box at the top of the forum. It just auto logs in. Other routes direct to the profile type page which I back away from each time.

i found a difference in the way the web site functions...

if i log in manually using the digital spy log in option in the top left hand section of the web page i get the correct popup for the user name and password and this method works fine for me.

however, if i log in by first clicking the "add reply" button, it directs me to an account page, which already has all my information in it, except for the 3 empty spaces for passwords and 2 spaces for first and last name. Regardless of wether ire-input this or not, clicking save changes doesnt do anything, and i have to come out of the web site and start over.

I have the same problem if I click on the link from a email saying that I got a reply.

what I do now is log into the forums from the top of the forum page and then click on the link from the email.

solved, but not ideal.

I log in to find myself not logged in. I have to re-click the log-in button again for it to work.

I'm still having an issue logging in to DS using the 'reply' button like I used to. It just won't log me in, I have to use the top left 'log in using ds' option only.

Have we lost the 'reply - log in' feature entirely?

Don't like Facebook trying to become the sole portal to the internet.
Don't like being forced to have a Facebook account or Google account to access some sites - eg Spotify, Youtube.
Managed fine without those extra logins/accounts before.
Don't like not having control of how my info is used.
Don't like being data-mined for marketing purposes.

Yes, I know that's the way of the world and that without ads we'd probably have to pay for using sites (and of course I'd moan about that too!).
Yes, I know it won't kill me and probably all my ID info will be safe.
No, I'm not paranoid.

If it offers more options to people then okay. As I have never used the main site (not being interested in showbiz, gossip or "celebs") and only ever posted on General Discussion, therefore only ever logged in using my DS account, I have never needed Facebook before and therefore saw no need for the change. I now understand that others may benefit from it.

However, it's the inter-connectivity of sites that concerns me. I am quite happy using different sites for different purposes and don't want that to change.

I don't feel it's an over reaction to feel irritated that someone has changed something I used fine before without warning or explanation.

I'm finding that I have to type in my username and password every time I log in, which I didn't have to before. It's a pain in the backside having to do this.

Oh, I absolutely agree. I have no wish to be associated with Facebook and I resent the fact that certain sites can only be accessed through it.

But they reckon that this will oust e-mail eventually, don't they? I do hope not!

I noticed this about Facebook today:

http://www.foxbusiness.com/technolog...-is-fad-stock/

Is it always going to be such a fuss to get into DS? My fastest (!) way to get in now seems to be

1. Open subscription page
2. Open a forum page
3. Click on log-in with DS (on the forum page).
4. Scroll down the little window
5. Click log in
6. Go to subscription page and refresh.

Still cannot puzzle out how to get in from subscription page.

i now cant log in at all at my public library.

both versions of the new ds login https page bring up "no security certificate" and redirect to web content filter. which blocks page. no way round this.

i think ds did not think this through and test well enough on browsers. whatever the reasons for it are.

this should work most situations :

get the mobile forums. ie go m digitalspy co uk. then select forums link page bottom.

login using wap. at top of page "sign in"

if u want, get desktop version via link page bottom. u should remain logged in.

logging out should work ok.

to get mobile versin while on desktop one goto url. should say: forums digitalspy co uk at end of existing url line add

/?styleid=51

(exactly like that with no spaces. ie the forward slash directly follows letters uk at end of existing url).

hitting return to enter entire url should then return to mobile format.

this also works other way round ie mobile to desktop if u change above parameter value to 49 instead of 51. but easier to use the link !

some very odd cgi here ......

Personally, my problem is not so much with the situation regarding linking DS and Facebook accounts as it is now, but rather, given FB's previous for just arbitrarily changing their privacy policies and forcing you to go back and change your settings (and also a lingering uncertainty about getting it right), is what could happen in the future.

I temper what I say on FB, because I know it is in my name. Similarly, I don't exactly go crazy on here, because it isn't linked at all to 'real me', and I like that.
