yesterday we bought a LG 42LK530T lcd tv from richer sounds,
tv is connected to a freeview pvr box by HDMI cable ( HDMI 1)
and BUSH dvd player to tv by scart 1 ( no hdmi connection on dvd player )
my problem is- you insert a dvd into player nothing happens ?
you have to manually select the scart input to watch the dvd.
any advice thanks !!

SCART control is probably turned off either on the DVD player or the TV. Though can't off the top of my head recall if my LG telly has a menu setting for this.

Try searching through the menus on both devices for anything resembling "SCART Control" - may not be called that however. But there is no reason why the TV should not auto switch to the DVD. Pretty sure mine switches to SCART if I've got the HDMI input selected.

Try a different scart lead. Auto scart selection is very simple it just uses pin 8. If the cable is faulty pin 8 may not be connecting properly.

I too have an LG TV.

If you use a fully wired scart cable (or at least as Graham says, one with pin 8 connected) then the switching works without problems.

I suspect the problem is indeed with the scart cable.

LG uses a system they call Simplelink which works the same way as Q-Link and other systems. I'm not sure but this may also control whether scart switching is on or off, so try turning Simplelink on if it is not already on.
