Does anyone know where I can buy a bottle of garlic sauce, the kind you get in a Turkish kebab shop?

All the supermarkets do garlic mayo, but it is slightly different to the kebab shop kind.

If you have any Turkish grocery stores near you, they would be more authentic.

Just buy a bottle off them if you can't find it elsewhere.

We have local shop that supplies local catering companies and that is the type of thing they would stock.

Never found garlic sauce in a supermarket.
Here's the recipe for a garlic sauce that we get in the takeaways in my town. It's not garlic mayo!

Basic recipe:

1 tsp garlic *

2 tsp yoghurt **

2 tsp mayo

* Pureed garlic is best. It could be a clove pureed in a pestle & mortar with a pinch of salt and sugar, which is what I find best. You can also mince it with a knife.

Or you can use puree from a tube or jar.

** You can use natural or greek yoghurt, soured cream or creme fraiche.

Option extras are salt and sugar, but becareful if you have used them when pureeing the garlic.

You can add a dash of lemon juice.

You can add some fresh mint & parsley or even a little jarred mint sauce. Use a dash of water to thin the sauce to desired consistency.

The final strenght of the sauce will depend on the size and pungency of the cloves. Add more yoghurt or mayo to suit.

Thanks for all your responses! I live in North London so I should be able to find a Turkish Supermarket on Green Lanes perhaps.

Otherwise I might make my own thanks to the excellent recipe provided!

Thanks again everyone!

You could try somewhere like Farmfoods. I'm sure I've seen bottles of Garlic Sauce in there although it might be Garlic Mayo its not something I've really paid that much attention to but sure its big squeezy type bottles and the brand I think is Crucial they sell other stuff like burger sauce etc might not be what you are looking for but could be worth a look.

Or you could try some of the online sites like this one

http://www.rosspa.co.uk/

They sell Mowbrays Garlic Sauce amongst other things and think I have found myself a nice new online food shopping site.

Even just try googling you may get some random results for places you wouldn't think of looking or recipies if you want to have a go yourself.

It is mostly galic mayo that they sell in supermarkets/c&c

Possibly yoghurt doesn't have the shelf life to be packaged in a sqeezy bottle.

IMO garlic sauce needs the fresh tang of yoghurt to cut the mayo or as an alternative soured cream or creme fraiche.

B&M Bargains do garlic mayo and mint yoghurt in the large squeezy bottles that they use in the kebab shops near me. Although it's called mayo it's a bit runnier and more like a sauce. Only 99p a bottle too. And the mint yoghurt one is lovely on chicken tikka kebabs!
