Humax FOXSAT - TV Calibration File
ccip
11-05-2012
Does anyone know of a file that will run on the Foxsat to display images on the TV so that I can setup Brightness, Contrast, Colour and Sharpness?

As an alternative I have an MP4 file (AVS 709) that will do just that but need to convert it to run on the Foxsat. How do I do that?

Short clip of the HD testcard here playable from USB if you use AV2HDR to create the support files.

AV2HDR may well handle your mp4 file as well.

Unfortunately the levels on the broadcast BBC test card aren't correct.

Black is correct, but everything else is slightly out. The white isn't quite white (it's grey). The little "superwhite" dot is actually white, and there's no superwhite. If you calibrate your TV "properly" with this test card, you'll clip the top 2% of "nearly white" colours (and all their associated hues) to white (or worse, depending on how your TV clips). Whether any domestic TVs can be calibrated this accurately anyway is a question raised by Andy Quested in this blog.

I haven't used it, but I assume AVS 709...

...is correct. It sounds like something AV2HDR should be able to handle (with the right input format - try remuxing to MPEG-2-TS if the original mp4 file doesn't work).

Cheers,
David.

Graham/David thanks for the replies.
I already have a short recording of the BBCHD test card on the Humax and will use that as a first attempt, being careful about the white level. I have a Panasonic 50gt50 arriving on Wednesday with lots of adjustment potential. I will then try using AV2HDR to convert the MP4 file.

I now have AVS 709 on the Humax, had to remux to MPEG-2 first. Andy Quested suggested using Lee Lighting Filters No.181 Congo Blue with the BBCHD testcard to set up colour. Would this filter work properly with AVS 709?
