Chicken, chicken or chicken, lack of choice in supermarket curries
For me the best curries are lamb and I particularly liked Morrison's Lamb Rogan Josh, the problem is they don't sell it anymore but instead sell Chicken Rogan Josh.
That goes with the Chicken Biryani, Chicken Balti, Chicken Madras, Chicken Tikka Marsala, Chicken Jalfrezi and Chicken Korma, they do one beef curry as well but no own-brand lamb. A lot of supermarkets are the same, lots of different sauces to choose from but very little choice in meat, is this because British people massively prefer chicken curries or is it because it's cheaper? Surely lamb is the more authentic dish? |

I'd say price is a big factor.
But also that maybe the average person has bland taste and lack of adventure in their diet. All they want is chicken. They think that lamb is fatty and has too strong a taste. |

Poor quality chicken is very cheap at the moment so is great for the supermarkets to put in their ready meals. Curry in particular is perfect for this as the sauce disguises the lack of taste the meat has. You wouldn't get away with it as much with lamb.

Morrisons still sell a more expensive Mumtaz (?) brand lamb Rogan Josh but I've not tried it, the Morrisons one was good meat and quite a lot of it, I've had worse at the curry house.
Tried Tescos Lamb Rogan, was pretty poor. |
