If you went to their tour, you'd see they still include a lot of creativity and humour into their routines, just not all of them.
I think it's clever, really - more or less every dance troupe on the show has followed in their footsteps by incorporating comedy into their routines. If they performed on the show doing the same thing as the current troupes on the show, they'd no longer be seen as the ones to beat. They'd be lost in that crowd.
By adding more of a concept to their piece ("becoming the music" in this case), they're setting themselves apart from other dance groups again, just as they did initially by having comedy where others didn't.
Plus if rumours are true, three members of the group have recently left and one is injured, and they didn't seem to know they were performing on BGT until this week, so I'm guessing they didn't have as much preparation time as they might have liked.
