I have been a Netflix customer for about 5 months doesnt sound alot but in that time I have watched a high percentage of all the good shows/films on there.
Their content isn't very up to date and their library isnt the best either.

Therefore I switched over to LoveFilm Instant - and WOW! the library is huge takes me ages to find a film I want to watch at the time because there are so many I want to watch lol!

Well thats my thoughts, I vote LF

Yep. I've been with Netflix for two months now and I've seen most of what I want to watch. I Think I'll change over for a while at the end of the month.

Lovefilm has more recent films, Netflix has more TV.

Netflix has HD streaming, Lovefilm doesn't...The main complaint I read about Lovefilm on here and many other forums is that the quality of its streaming is crap. Not just not HD, but crap.

Really I can't really comment on the TV side of Love Film
but netflix for that was quite good, but like I say I watched majority of olides on there..

LoveFilm quality dont seem to be an issue with me, I stream from my Xbox to the TV maybe thats why its better quality

If netflix had Lovefilms library then thats what I call a winwin siutation

Been with Netflix since it launched.
Am able to watch both UK and US content so overall more choice for just a little extra cost of using unblock-us.
I tried Lovefilm streaming, TV shows are very limited at the moment, a few more recent films than Netflix but alot of others are available on US Netflix.
Lovefilms user interface is terrible.
Didn't even complete the 30 day trial before I canceled.
I'm sticking with Netflix as there's plenty ive seen so far and there's plenty more I would like to see.
Netflix wins hands down for TV shows.

LoveFilm have put a LOT more TV shows on streaming in the last month or two. I don't use the streaming a lot because I don't like watching movies on a computer screen but their selection has definitely improved since they got competition from Netflix.

Cannot comment much on streaming from computer, but the LoveFilm selection on Sony Bravia devices for TV shows I wouldn't call alot:

I've tried both and do all my streaming through their respective Xbox Live apps.

The main thing that put me off Lovefilm was the rubbish streaming quality. At a max of 2Mb it wasn't even the best possible SD but when Netflix offers HD 5.1 movies, there's a difference.

Unblock-us adds some content and takes some other content away. Both aren't amazing for new releases compared to Lovefilm's disc selection but let's not forget Lovefilm didn't bother much with their streaming until netflix came along. I trust netflix is going to fight hard to get good content as they are a streaming only business.

However, both are convenient to cancel and re-start so there doesn't need to be much LF vs NF. Use one, one month and use the other the next month. Even combined is still quite reasonable at £11 a month. I would do away with a TV subscription package and rely on those two combined.

One good thing about Netflix is that if you cancel the service, you're allowed to keep using it for the period you've paid for. E.g. if my month runs from the 10th day month 1 to the 9th day month 2. If I cancel on the 12th, I can use it until 9th day month 2.

On LF, they stop your service immediately but don't refund you any amount so you have to time carefully when you want to cancel their service.

Netflix is awful. Couldn't find anything that I was really up for watching. Loads of old stuff, nothing much new, and the picture on our TV (streamed through Xbox) was shocking.

You must have a bad internet connection. Xbox uses adaptive streaming. It starts bad with a low bit rate and slowly increases as per what it detects your connection can handle.

Also try using netflix in conjunction with unblock-us.com

LOVEFiLM Instant and Netflix is a compelling combo for cult TV and more recent films. Competition from Sky will only benefit the nascent streaming market in the UK!

I would say both Lovefilm and Netflix UK are pretty much on a par with each other. As others have pointed out Lovefim has better film content while Netflix has more TV content. What hasn't helped is that both companies have struck up exclusivity contracts with distributors, which means as UK customers we're getting limited content from both.

Netflix's saving grace is that by using a cheap redirection service like unblock-us or unodns (which works out roughly like £3 per month), you can gain access to Netflix America's far superior library of titles, which in my opinion is better than Netflix UK and Lovefilm combined. Netflix US has loads of great titles which have never had a UK DVD release and US shows that haven't even made it to Sky yet (Futurama season 8, Workaholics, Parks & Recreation, Stephen King's Bag of bones), plus the majority of Lovefilm's exclusive content is available on Netflix US.

Both sites charge roughtly the same and have online guides on how to set up their DNS on a range of devices, and both offer a free one week trial without the need to register a credit card.

I would take advantage of the free weeks trial with both and sign up with the one you prefer. I personally use unotelly, I just found it a bit more user friendly, though there is very little different between the two.

You need to enter the dns settings into the ps3. Follow their setup instructions for the ps3 and should work. I havent got ps3 but i am using unotelly for Wii and Sony bluray.

I like the little unblock-us app that runs on a PC. You can use it to connect to the US version of Netflix, then disconnect from it to access the UK service.

I done what they said tried the dns settings manually inputting them on the PS3. I went to the website on the PS3 browser logged in then i got the message that the certificate was invalid did i want to continue which i said yes. Apparently the icon should be under my channnels but there is nothing there a complete waste of time. I tried reboooting the PS3 and still nothing. My account is valid because i checked my email address. So if anyone has this on PS3 let me know.

Wait... so you don't even have the Netflix or Lovefilm apps on the PS3 anyway? Neither of them have appeared in the first place?

I use Netflix with Unblock US and love it. There is plenty that I want to watch on there (even if I am working my way through CSI on DVD at the moment). I would recommend Netflix to anyone, it's awesome. I run it on the laptop but connect the HDMI cable from it to the TV which does it for me.

Ah. I think you're getting a bit muddled up

There isn't an unotelly app on the PS3...The app is for the PC, to save you manually changing your PC's DNS each time you want to switch from UK / US on the PC. Same for unblock-us.

To access Netflix on the PS3 (or other console/device), you always use the Netflix app.

1) Sign up for unotelly / unblock-us

2) Change DNS settings on the PC temporarily (manually or via the app) so you can verify your IP address with unotelly / unblock-us (easier than using the PS3's shitty browser)

3) Change DNS settings on PS3

4) Load Netflix app on PS3... You now have Netflix US!

^^ This. Netflix UK is ok and I was happy paying for that, get access to the US version however and its brilliant value for money IMO.

I couldn't agree more.
Some are happy enough with just using US Netflix only, but myself I like to alternate between UK and US as they've both got stuff the other hasn't.
And as you say this makes it brilliant value for money.(and that's even with the extra £3.20 a month for Unblock-US. Though if you pay yearly it brings it down to about £2.65 a month)
