I can't quite understand why Jonathon & Charlotte did the same as their audition song as it wasn't the most emotionally connecting song for people anyway. I think they would have got more votes if they'd done something different (like Con te partiro which would have been perfect for them) but this simply would have lessened the huge winning margin rather than won it for them.

they won because of the stupidity of the voting public.the act will get nowhere and be forgotten in a year or two.

im more embarrassed when a grown guy is singing the same words through out a song about keys and phone...........

a prancing dog never won, ashleigh and her dog won and most of us realise how many hours work must of gone into their routines and the love, energy, and hard work was obvious to all, animals are very intelligent creatures and pudsey proved that. anyway obviously the nation agrees as they won

i had goosebumps at all 3 finalists! all deserved to be there.

No they won because they deserved to win. To answer the OP, I think timing was important and that since Gin, we've seen too many singers and dancers win and maybe the public have had enough of it. Maybe at the time of Gin, the public hadn't been inundated with so much of the same that we've seen over 6 series.

I voted for them and I'm not stupid

They were a fun act and I enjoyed watching them. I have a stressful job and it's nice to chill out and watch an entertaining act.

The won cause they were absolutely amazing, having worked with dogs myself I know only too well the hard work and dedication it takes to get to a dog to a quarter of what Pudsey can do, he is absolute star and for a girl so young to train him to this level is simply unbelievable, so many hours of training as finally paid off for them both and I think its awesome, actually makes me proud to be British that the british public voted them as their winners with such huge competition of talent in this years final.

Just have my fingers crossed now for next years with Crumpet, Pudseys daughter entering the competition and make it to win.

I voted for Pudsey and I take offence at being called stupid. I voted for the act which entertained me the most and what Pudsey did was more than just 'a few tricks'.

I find that generally, people who make mean spirited comments like this are usually pretty unhappy in their own life.

It's obvious that people who have a different opinion to you are stupid - right?

Pudsey & Ashleigh won because they delivered on the night, and have been consistent throughout. They could've done the same routine 3 x over and bored us to tears, but they didn't disappoint last night, and in my opinion are worthy winners. It's boring having singers/dance troupes win every year. Pudsey deserved to win. Woof.

Well he didn't have a lot to beat. A choir that doesn't sing in English, a fat opera singer, a group that already been voted out of the competition , a reject from another talent contest, a group of swimmers who failed to get a place in the Olympics because they were not good enough, a dance act from "week one" of strictly, an out of her depth child singer, etc. etc.

They won because we, the GBP, fell in love with them. A heartwarming act which entertained us.

PS - I am far from stupid.

Inventive routines that were more than just a 'dancing' dog

Three different routines rather than regurgitation of a previous routine.

Ashleigh was as much part of the routine as the dog. They came across as very much a girl and her much loved pet rather than and 'act'

She made it look easy but getting a dog to do those things is incredibly difficult and takes hours and hours of work. The part where the dog is walking on its back legs is very difficult for a dog.

At the end of the day they were just an enormously likeable couple that people took to their hearts.

All of the Above.

Well deserved winners IMO

I would hope that she adopts rather than buy. There are thousands of dogs in shelters desperately needing homes. Many will be put down. When we got our dog (a beautiful Lurcher called Brochan - that is Scottish Gaelic for porridge), we never even considered a breeder. We are now thinking about another rescue dog. In fact, Ashleigh could even donate some of her prize money to animal charities (just as long as it's not the RSPCA as they kill thousands of animals every year).

Please go to a shelter if you are considering a dog. Don't discriminate against breeds either. Thanks.

Anyway, I am delighted that Ashleigh and Pudsey won. Such a refreshing change from singers and dancers.

You have clearly NEVER tried to train a dog - or would that be beneath you? At least Ashleigh came up with three DIFFERENT routines, and Pudsey was smart enough to learn them really quickly. They have a bond which is greater than a lot of human to human relationships, and that should be admired and respected. Then again, you probably aren't that nice a person, so admiration and respect are two things you don't know the meaning of. In the future, keep your nasty comments to yourself!

The dog act won because the talent in the past 2 series has been so dire that it's been very hard to pick anything else. That or people are so bitter about dancers or singers winning that they think choosing the boring dog to win would be good for the show , when really it is just embarrassing for the show. I would have preferred any of the acts in this years final to beat the dog though.

I have friends in Australia, USA, Canada, NZ who think this is either incredibly funny or embarrassing that it won.

I agree , it's not talent its teaching a dog to do tricks , it's no more talented then that guy who was making music out of those lights . People would say it's stupid if someone auditioned with a hamster or rabbit but because it's a dog it must be amazing

It was more than just a prancing dog having talent. It was Ashleigh having the talent to train the dog to be a prancing dog. It's not as if Pudsey could just do those things as he grew up. He was trained, very well, by his owner for a number of years. The amount of work she had to put in would have been insane. Not to take it away from other acts, as it's all hard work, but it was THREE completely different routines she performed with Pudsey. The song writers on the show performed the same song twice.

For me, it was the first time I had voted in one of these comps for years, simply because I understand just how much work is involved in dog training. Not everyone did, but I voted for Ashleigh rather than Pudsey as I seen the act as more "My talent is being able to train dogs, and this is the end result of years of training".

Personally I felt I could relax while watching Ashleigh and Pudsey, which meant I could enjoy it much more. Whereas with all the other dog acts I've constantly felt nervous that the dog would mess up/get distracted.
