Alexandra Burke's Future - Flop+Drop or Superstar?
'Let It Go', Alex's new song, has failed to generate any significant airplay- most importantly though, it has not been added to either Radio1 playlists or the Capital FM playlist. These stations both ignored Elephant in the run-up to its release and only after the song reached no.3 did R1 add it onto their playlist - the B list- whilst Capital FM continued to snub the singer.
The first question I'd like to ask is why? Past X-Factor winners and contestants are all being played consistently on the major stations whereas AB is consistently getting ignored. What adds to the irony though is that these new AB singles are all 'generic chart trash' as some may call it- songs which upon first listen are destined to be played constantly on the radio. No matter what people say, AB will never hit the no.1 spot with 'Let It Go' if there is a repeat of top radio stations ignoring the song. The only hope now is that TV music channels pick up the song ( I hear 4Music is ), and that AB makes constant TV appearances. What infuriated me was Simon Cowell not inviting his supposed protege onto BGT to perform. This perhaps tells me that he has given up on her and also that this album may as well be her last with the Sony music group. Let It Go will definitely hit the top 10, but if there is no radio support the song will undoubtedly slide out of the top 40 within a few weeks. The sales matter the most, not the charting. Guys, tell me what you think about her career! Where do you think it is going? Where do you want it to go, and most importantly, will AB be around in five more years? |

I think she is really going to struggle this era, especially with album sales. A hit single that hangs around in the charts is needed for album longevity otherwise it will peak in its first week and drop like a stone. Something must have happened behind the scenes re: airplay. Radio 1 were never huge supporters during her first era but Capital always were. It seems really strange they have snubbed her completely for no reason. Elephant was alright but I could partly understand why radio programmers weren't keen. Let It Go, generic as it is, is a great pop song and much better than the likes of Tulisa's Young and Cheryl's Call My Name which are both in heavy rotation. It reminds me of All Night Long which Capital played to death and which reached #1 in the overall airplay chart. Very bizarre situation. I don't think she will be dropped if this album doesn't sell as well as expected and even if she was another label would snap her up because of her talent and past success. Quote:
Absolutely. AB and Jessie J are probably the most annoying women in British music right now.

Well I really don't think its down to the music. There are other unknown reasons and I think she is being sabotaged and blacklisted via industry politics. Capital will never play her as she has the same market as Jessie J who's signed to Global Management which is connected directly to Capital.
Simon never gave her the time of day even when she was with syco and she realised this. Its clear RCA is just a stopgap to ride out her deal with SME...I predict by next year she'll leave the group completely and sign elsewhere. I also think she'll fire her dreadful manager. She's a smart girl and she's never been one to let things wash over her....she is making the best of a bad sitaution..its just a shame that the UK industry has decided to blacklist one of their best talents in favour of others. |

I like both of their personalities but I can see why they can be grating and polarising. Jessie's doesn't stop her getting airplay though but maybe that's because she's in her first era and is untouchable at the moment. I think Jessie J is the present equivalent of AB at the moment for Capital FM. She's constantly getting played, appearing on their adverts and performing at their gigs. I fear this will end as soon as the next equivalent pops up- perhaps already being Rita Ora. |

It's an interesting debate. I think this will be a very short era for her, a third single will be released and maybe they'll call it a day. She'll probably get a number 1 album with this, with sales as low as they are, it's not out of reach. However, like some have said, radio is key for a singles success. Let It Go will perform exactly the same as Elephant. Meaning she'll have two lackluster selling singles to budge this album.
Usually once a first single is ignored by radio, every other single from the same album is snubbed. So I can't see a sudden serge in popularity, unless she has a massive collaboration, which she's hinted countless times yet none have surfaced on the tracklisting? Either way it's going to be a massive uphill battle for her. |

I don't get how her album is not on the HMV Pre Order chart?
Leona's "Glassheart" was at number 5 already (now number 9) and even Tulisa's album & Cheryl's "A Million Lights" are in the top 20. Maybe I'm missing something ![]() EDIT: Doesn't matter just seen it at number 28 Anyway back to Alex, I hope her future is as a superstar because she deserves it, I mean she has talent. Surely thats what counts? |

She can obviously sing and dance but the music she puts out doesn't feel like it should be released by her. Elephant was awful and not the right choice for a lead single. Let It Go is better, but again, it seems to be missing something.
And there is something about her that just isn't likeable at all. I can never put my finger on it. Maybe she needs some media training. |

Surely thats what counts? But the music she has is doing her no justice at all. She has become an executive producer for this era in her career. If it has been her decision to do this type of music, she is without a doubt a great example of when artists should perhaps be a puppet and do what they are told by a label. |

Same goes for Leona "OOH-R-YA" Lewis. I think Simon Cowell will only ever drop her if she flops VERY hard because she is special to his label. But, her management have messed things up to her and it is only them who can be blamed for her career post Spirit. Leona trounces every other UK female artist in the voice stakes. Not even Adele can beat her voice. |

I think if 'Trouble' is as good as reviewers are claiming it to be, Leona should have no trouble generating radio support- especially on Radio One since she's an Ambassador for Hackney Weekend and also participating in their Academy project for young Londoners.

Each to their own but there are a lot better UK female artists that for me are vocally better than Leona

This. Don't usually get involved in negative threads but, for me, this is absolutely true. She really can sing, she actually can dance but oh my gawd she's so hard to like. Combine this with imo lowest common denominator music and I think she's going to flop badly... |

That is so true. She comes across as a bit fake and big headed to be honest. On The X Factor she was very patronising to the contestants and talking as if she had become Beyonce for example. Overrated, fell short of expectations, desperate, and bratty. That is what I think of her.
People are so quick to jump on this 'diva' thing, but she's never claimed to be some kind of superstar. |

What expectations? She went on the show and gave constructive criticism. At least she didn't lie through her teeth or act fake. She did very well as a last minute stand in, but she was a bit over-excited.

Her hair always seems to be tightly pulled back, and I know it sounds daft but I think the way she dresses seems aggressive (-does that make any sense?). I know it shouldn't be about styling because there's no question she's talented (I liked her XF). |

I certainly can't see her being a superstar, she's pretty much a nobody outside of the UK and Ireland as it is. I think she'll score a couple of hits from her upcoming album but the album itself will underperform and she'll eventually be dropped. She'll probably end up doing "Dancing on Ice" and musicals. That's my prediction anyway.
