Ruth is a bit too shouty for me and she's not 100% with her timing either. I do prefer Leannes voice... but each to their own.

Another Jayne McDonald you obviously need your hearing testing!!
Just that her voice is undistinctive. Jane MacDonald can sing, but she's no Barbra Streisand. Leanne can sing, but it's a bit cruise ship.

Leanne is my favourite of all the girls. She doesn't bend notes all the time and she has a good tone to her voice.
I do like Ruth as well but she gets into an almost screaming voice at times and slurrs her words.
Tom chose well last night.

Ruth is the only one out of all of them who can always move me to tears. Singing is not all about hitting notes spot on - you can get a computer to do that - it's more how the singer FEELS the song and emotes and she does this in an entirely unique way. Leanne can hit all the notes squarely and has a loud voice (too belting?) but I couldn't listen to a whole album of hers plus she seems a bit stiff on stage the way she stands.

I'm probably going to get really slated for this but all I hear from Ruth is tuneless bellowing. I really dislike her voice.

Leanne all the way for me, hope she wins the whole thing.

Surely its all subjective as to who is the better singer, I like Leanne, but she is very Caberet for me....I mean i dont see her setting the music world on fire, in fact i would think she would dissapear without trace very soon.
I find Ruth much more to my taste, I think she has the potential to be really great in the future, to become someone very special, all she needs is time and a little training in how to use her voice to better effect, I think she is awesome........though I accept she wont be to everyones taste. She is imo in a far different class to Leanne though...leagues ahead.

PS.......I was actually very surprised that Tom put Leanne through ahead of Adam, who I thought was also better than Leanne, much more adaptable to different types of music and I would imagine more voteworthy.

Ruth has a fab voice, the problem is the way she uses it.

Her pronunciation of words whilst singing, leaves alot to be desired. and buggers up your ear lobes

I prefer Leanne also

Leanne clearly has far more experience, and it shows in her voice control. Ruth still has a lot to learn, but already has a great foundation to work with, so it really depends on what the Coaches are going for: experience, so you can get to work quickly and sufficiently, or room to grow, which might mean that more singing lessons and development needs to happen before you have something workable.

Haha caberet and leagues ahead please!!! You obviously need your hearing testing too! Can you people not hear Ruth's diction and more importantly that she is ahead of the beat and flat on her big notes!!! You obviously have no idea and are being swayed by the voices publicity scam in who there faces her!!!! Haha falling into there trap!!

In a way they don't want to tame Ruth too much. Sure she might need some help with her breathing and diction etc because she gets very excitable but the beauty of her is that she's this good at this age and she has great instinct and just sings from another dimension really. Leanne is probably very entertaining at her holiday camp place but unfortunately I see her back there next year poor lass.

I don't know much about the Voice publicity machine, but I can tell the diffenence between a natural and instinctive singer and one who's learned their craft by imitating the likes of Celine Dion and Jennifer Rush.

Singing behind or ahead of the beat is what some singers do to put their own stamp on the song. If you want something that is exactly on the beat, listen to Doris Day or Cliff Richard. Those singers have a "singalong" quality to their stuff.

see http://www.sayingitwithjazz.com/Auth...azzSinging.htm for the following quote

However, improvising the melody is not the only way a jazz singer may reinterpret a song. She may play with the time, altering the tempo or singing ahead or behind the beat, for example. Like her contemporary, Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day was a master at improvising time, as can be heard in her tour de force rendition of “Sweet Georgia Brpwn" (from the documentary "Jazz on a Summer's Day," the Newport Jazz Festival, 1958.)

Re Adam, I was very surprised too. Considering Saturday night was the first time he was able to sing a song he could relate to all the way through, and he did it really well, I felt it was a bad choice to pick Leanne. I wonder what the actual viewers vote was on Saturday regarding Tom's team?

I agree with some others on here - Leanne is a very very competent singer but she really is 'cabaret' to my ears. She's like a slightly better Jayne McDonald. Ruth, because she hasn't been singing professionally for years like Leanna, can be very uneven in her delivery (her diction was indeed suspect on Saturday but some of the performance was fantastic) but the bad news for Leanne and her rivals is she clearly moves people. You only have to witness the audience reaction the last 2 times she's performed to realise this. Imo Leanne is as good as she can be now, Ruth could go onto be an absolutely incredible singer.

I'm in the Ruth is over rated camp!

She is good, but nowhere near as good as she is being made out, and when she sings, I mostly hear shouting and warbling round the notes rather than singing the one intended. She should have been told to go and get some lessons and try again next year when she hopefully would have matured into her voice.

She is lucky that her sob story has got her a lot of attention and got her fans who are blind (or should that be deaf) to her shortcomings. Despite what they say, the coaches weren't convinced by her blind audition either as only Tom turned for her - and then only at the last possible moment.

And she still needs to shoot her stylist the curtains she was wearing on Saturday did her no favours at all!!

I don't think Leanne has any more to offer. She performed 'Spell' really well and did an excellent job with it. Ruth is raw and undeveloped but she has something. That je ne sais quoi.

She moves me. She needs advice but she has real soul.

If you think shouting, bad diction and being ahead of the music is the potentional of a great singer then good luck to you all. The fact is Ruth has had a sob story (sad as it is) and a lot of publicity hence why she got through on public vote ...... And that is fact, this show 'THE VOICE' at the moment is proving very little to do with that and concentrating on the boo hoo aspect ........ Joke!!!!!!

Sinatra's phrasing was unique. He played with rhythm.

I'm not claiming such iconic status for Ruth. She really has a long way to go.

I like Leanne but it's a 'mannered' performance such as you might cultivate by assiduously listening to other vocalists if you also have ability - as Leanne certainly does. Ruth is utterly natural. I wasn't keen on the 'dead Dad' factor and would gladly have dismissed her just for that but she has a gift.

I'm not keen on either of them. Too much oversinging and belting for my liking.

My hearing is fine, I know what I like and with Ruth I like what I hear...........she needs some control and training, but there are many Leanne's out there, she has given all she has which is pleasurable to listen to, but thats it.Ruth on the other hand has real potential, it matters not a jot how rude you are to other posters or how strongly you try to put other peoples opinions down...........you wont change anyones mind.
As for the publicity machine, I have seen none, only what I read on here, so no trappings for me.

You really do need to calm down. People are entitled to their opinion and just because that may not be the same as yours doesn't give you the right to be so aggressively dismissive of it.

And Wensleydale is clearly better than Cheshire.

Not to mention Nissans. They're clearly better than Toyotas! Clearly.
