his music was awesome back in the day, but the great music he made will always be tarnished for his disgusting wrong doings.....(i do have a sneaky listen to Rock and Roll Pt2 once in a blue moon tho)

Either it is the Jan 77 edition with Glitter or it is not really the Jan 77 edition if he isnt in it.
That is all.

Most of the stuff on TOTP in that year was absolutely dire.

Glitter included!

I think 1976 was the first year that they have full archives for, so they're showing them all in order. So eventually we'll get to 1984.

And the "Gary Glitter thing" has been done to death already. Why pretend his musical career never happened? If the BBC are showing full episodes of TOTP for historical reasons (and that's effectively what they are doing) then they should do that, warts and all.

Well said. All these people complaining really need to get a grip. The fact that it is the worst song he ever did is another matter altogether

IMO I don't think he should be wiped from the face of musical history because of his hideous crimes.

Besides, he sold off any rights years ago, so it's not like he'll directly benefit ........

Maybe you should tell that to the Daily Heil, The Scum and the Helegraph, who are all saying otherwise in order to bash the BBC ...

I remember reading that Jonathan King had complained to Mark Thompson that they'd cut him out of something and and it was agreed to broadcast all future TOTP repeats unedited.

The only surprise for me was that It Takes All Night Long managed to get to number 25 when it's one of the worst things (musically) he ever did.

i think he still gets performance royalties, as i don't think you can sell those rights, and they aren't hugely desirable compared to the composing rights, which is what most people sell, or the mechanical rights (ie. the recordings). they are separate things

Yes I'd agree on that

It's interesting to put that clip/song into context with his musical career.

That was pretty much his last hit (it stopped just outside the top twenty) & apart from Another Rock N Rock Xmas in 1984 (I didn't realise it was in the 80's!) he didn't really trouble the top 40 again.

He did of course have a comeback in the 90's, mainly touring until the Child Sex stories started to surface

The 'Daily Mail' has created a right fuss over it all - read the many 'outraged'
comments underneath the Article.

I'd argue that if we removed every person off TV, who has ever been in Court,
(& found guilty), over something, there would have to be an awful lot of people
written out of TV & Music History.

Going by the stories I've heard about Led Zeppelin, if they edited everything out, the repeats of TOTP would be minus a theme tune.

I love that one of the comments includes a link to a Daily Mail story from a year ago when the Daily Mail accused the BBC of "Stalinist behaviour" ......... for showing an old TOTP with Gary Glitter's performance removed.

I bet the Daily Mail's Mods will remove it soon.

However vile Gary Glitter's actions were, it is good to be reminded that the Daily Mail is even viler.

As always the BBC is damned if they do and damned if they don't. Usually by the same people...
