I would recommend both albums.
I see a lot of Kate bush comparisons but I don't know enough of Kate's music to say whether there is any truth in that.
I hope you enjoy her music!

I say go for it (but then I would because I'm a fan) The Family Jewels is very quirky and has some great songs like Hermit the Frog, Numb, and I Am Not a Robot. Electra Heart is Marina but through a pop filter, the lyrics are from the same place and are full of dark humor and wit!

Is she similar to Florence & the Machine or Gin Wigmore?

I wouldn't say she is similar to anyone really, thats why I love her. Both albums are amazing, get both for sure! Yeah, her music (especially on the first album) is nothing like anyone else, she is pretty much in her own league.

I should be able to get them both for £15 or $25 Australian when her new album drops Friday.

I agree

Plus i fail to see the Kate Bush comparison. Apart from the slight weirdness about her, she is no where near the Kate Bush or even Florence welch league.

There are definitely Kate Bush vibes, but it's the quirky vocal delivery more than the music. I think "wonky pop" describes her well.

To echo the above, both albums are brilliant. TFJ is a good set up to Marina, more quirky and indie flavoured, and EH is largely the same with a nice big dollop of pop on top.

Witty lyrics, catchy choruses, haunting melodies and all with a message...my kind of popstar.

I say Electra Heart sounds like Katy Perry with a brain crossed with some of the weirdness of florence whears Family Jewels is more wonky pop and indie ish both very good and should give them a try.

I reccomend both albums, especially the first as it's my favourite. The second is really good aswell, a very smart pop record and alot more mainstream then the first. Not a bad thing however. I'd say the Kate Bush comparisons mostly come from the fact that Marina writes her own songs, plays piano and has an operatic voice. Much like Kate's early days. That's where it finishes but I don't think their alike at all sound wise or voice wise.

I'd buy her first album (The Family Jewels) first and see if you like it and then buy Electra Heart (current one).

Enjoy new Marina fan.

Her albums are worth a listen but no way is she like Kate Bush, she's one of a kind and in a league of her own. Kate, not Marina.

New album has tracks that wouldn't sound out of place on a Katy Perry album...

She is nothing at all like Kate Bush. I always see her getting compared with Florence (only because of the 'and the' in both names). She's alright though. I've bought 2 of her singles off iTunes.

On her debut album she was a bit like a rough around the edges British Regina Spektor type, the second album sounds like something The Saturdays would release.

...well that's the Dr. Luke production for you...although I couldn't imagine Katy singing the same lyrics.
