Missing Cat

14-05-2012
Just come here to have a moan, my cats gone missing been missing for 2 days now, he was a stray and came to us over a year ago..

Looked for him all around our area, but havent gone upto the main road, couldnt bay to see if he has been run over, ( he wasnt very streetwise)

Its puzzled me because he never goes far, always round the back garden or on the front, he only goes further when i go to the shops and he follows me up waits at top of street and comes back down.

Is it normal for cats to just wonder off for no reason? I mean he is a greedy bugger loves his food, i have left food outside for him today and it not been touched

As the owner of a cat that has now been found after '9' weeks missing , I would recommend that you do as Snowy suggests regarding getting posters/flyers in your area and also 'get' the word out to all of your neighbours, local shopkeepers, postmen and anyone that walks via your street each day. This time of year people are in their gardens and he may have gone into a shed or somewhere warm and this is why it is important to get the posters/flyers and I would even put them through people's doors. The Cats Protection League (website) are also very useful for information on things to 'get the word' out about your missing cat.

My cat had never left home before and as he is 13 years old I was extremely worried and he too is not 'streetwise'. In his case he left, I think, because scaffolding had been erected around my home and it must have spooked him. Has anything changed where your cat usually frequents outside? They can be affected by change.

I do hope that you find him soon and if you feel that he may have wandered to the main road you could always give the council a call think that it's the Environmental team) and ask if he has 'been picked up'. I hope that this will not be the case but I know that I wanted to know what had happened to my cat but thankfully he is now home after being picked up by the RSPCA. He has lost lots of weight and will need lots of care and a special diet but this is a small price to pay for his being returned to me.

Good luck and I do hope that you find him soon and please do let us know how you get on.

Oh no.

Posters/flyers are a good idea as people have suggested. If you have facebook put a message on there with a photograph and a contact number too.

Apparently leaving items of clothing in the garden is a good idea - hopefully your cat will recognise the scent and come home.

I hope your cat returns soon.

EDIT - Leave a poster with your local vet. At the very least it will be seen by people on a daily basis who are likely to be in your area. I think most owners worry about the same thing happening to their pet so they'll be more than happy to keep a look out.

I went through the same thing a few years ago. We put up flyers, went round all our neighbours asking them to check sheds, keep an eye out for her. I spent every evening after work going round calling out her name. Found her up a very tall tree 5 days later after she wailed like a banshee after seeing us. Fingers crossed for you your kitty will turn up safe and well.

all this^ i swear there is nothing that you can do that wont help. My cat went missing for 8 days. did all that Mc suggested & a neighbour chapped on door one evening to inform that she was hiding under her canoe. Best day of my life..not knowing drove me insane!. She drunk a shit load of water on her return. i never did get to the bottom of her sojourn. Just glad for the happy ending.

Good to know he is back.

My cousin in the United States put a message on her facebook page a couple of days ago - their cat got out in the evening and as they have a fox in the area who can be heard howling at night they were awake all night worrying - next morning at 6 a.m. there she was sitting on the porch waiting to come in as if nothing had happened!

Completely agree after spending a sleepless night and walking round roads in darkness calling for my Lucy (accompanied by my Millie who enjoyed her 'walk' last night). I last saw Lucy yesterday morning before going to work - my cats are sticklers for their routine so I was worried when she wasn't at the window when I came home last night. I had about 3 hours sleep from midnight to 3am. She's just walked in through the flap and is completely puzzled by my 'relieved' reaction, she's not one for cuddles .

She's gone off again now! I can't get to sleep... I think that now the weather is better I'm going to have to get used to Lucy's prolonged excursions but it's hard not to worry when my other 2 cats are indoors snoring at night.
