Hi,

Thought I'd share what happened to me today to see if others want to benefit from it.

I pay 58.25 a month includes movies / sport / hd. As the football season has ended I normally phone to ask for a reduction during the 'off season' for the sports package (normally 3 months).

When I called today I had the bonus that they would give me 20% off the whole package for 9 months. Result!!! No strings attached, I haven't committed to another 12 month contract, but to be honest I wouldn't have minded anyway.

Not sure if anyone else is interested in trying, I had no difficulties, just asked if they had any offers on. Called 0844 995 95 95 and went to downgrade packages.

Good luck if anyone wants to give it a try.

I called to cancel sports a couple of weeks ago (31 days notice til the end of the rugby season) and got an offer if I kept sports on I would get movies free for 12 months. I didn't have to ask they volunteered it.
I switch off sports each summer but this is the first time I have had a deal.

So there seems to be push to keep customers.

Just called the number given (0844 995 95 95)

And all i got was half price Sport for 3 months - better than nothing i suppose

Been with sky for 10 years never missed a bill and only other offer i had was years ago 6 months half price

To be honest i expected a little more

EDIT: just to add i have all sport and movies + HD @ 62.25 a month

why did you expect more?
they could have just accepted your cancellation request without question.

you got a discount. count yourself lucky you got one at all.

I didn't ask for cancellation, just what offers were available

Just felt they could of done more if they wanted too

You hear of people getting great offers all the time, and i thought it might of been my turn

That's why you "only" got 3 months... Always ask to cancel the service if you want the best offer, it works for any subscriptions (cellphones, tv prodiver, internet..). If you don't ask to cancel why would they offer you something ? For sure you have been lucky to have something

Just a quick question, I currently have the offer of HD Pack for 4 a month that was going around back last August. If I phoned to take Sports off for the off season (the Euros and Olympics are on FTA TV anyway) would that offer become void?

The condition of the 4 offer was that I kept Sky Sports for 12 months. I don't mind keeping it at all, but I was just wondering would they offer me something, seeing as I'm already on an offer, if that makes sense?!

....and me.

I phoned to cancel saying my Thomson box was playing up and for the programmes I watch I thought it would, overall, be chaeper for me to move to Virgin. They offered a reduction to 10 for a call out to replace the box. I have heard nothing else from them apart from an email asking why I cancelled which I truthfully answered.

If nothing happens this week then I shall lose it on Monday and get Virgin. I have to say I used to have Virgin's analogue service but changed back to Sky for the digital about 10 years ago, and I have Virgin broadband. I originally had Sky analogue before it was ever scrambled and stayed with it for 8 years so maybe they know I may go back sometime.

It would have been nice to have something offered though.

I had a similar experience, cancelled Sports and HD together a few weeks back and was offered nothing.

Then last night Sky called and offered me 2.50 p/m for HD for 12 months. Thinking about it, I should have taken that, but declined.

They may offer something better, either way, I am happy as I have the money and not Sky for a service that I wasn't really using.

I phoned last month to remove sports and movies and they gave me free line rental and broadband for 2.50/month for 9 months (I was already a line rental and bb customer), which I thought was rather strange? Still can't complain.

Just to add that I didn't threaten to cancel my subscription (though I have played that old trick a few times before) and they still offered me the 9 month deal. I think a lot of it comes down to who you get at the end of the phone.

Any discount is better than nothing surely?

Why do people always brag about the discounts they get? Is it just to wind people up? Then you get people saying "why is your discount better than mine? I've been with them for 10+years".I get a discount, but I'm not quick to show off about it. People get different discounts depending on the offers available and what mood the retention guys are in and how you talk to them. Get over it! Rant over

To wind people up? Quite the opposite actually. New customers always get special offers. Threads like this one show that just because you are an existing customer you can still get discounts with a little effort which some people won't be aware of.

I just re-read my post (and others) and can't see mine or anyone else 'winding' people up, they are simply stating the discounts they are getting. Can't see anyone competing with each other with the 'biggest discount'.

I read a chain like this a few years ago as I didn't realise you could do it. This is simply a sharing of information so that others can benefit from it, no malice attached. I hope others can benefit like I can with the information provided.

If you don't like it, simply ignore and skip over it. Simples.

I forgot about ESPN canceled that the other month and got no offer then either.

I'm playing a dangerous game, my other half keeps seeing the bill going down on the statements and may get used to it. Especially has her Father keeps bragging about his Humax.

I don't think they will offer discounts on channels that are not included in package like ESPN. They "own" Sky movies, the HD etc... so they can whatever they want. Not with premium channel like ESPN.

That's only my point of view, not an affirmation

They sometimes do. Sky get a cut of ESPN subscriptions because they administer them through their customer services department.
