I'm looking at wether or not I can buy a second hand Tivo box?
I have Tivo in my living room and a second V HD box installed in a bedroom, would it be possible to source a tivo box off an auction site and simply swap the V HD box over without going through Virgin, and probably paying more?

This has been discussed before, you cannot buy a 2nd hand Tivo box and expect Virgin to install it for you, they will not add the box to your account
because it has already left their system as being in another person's house, you will only end up with an expensive Doorstop

If I was you I will phone up Virgin Customer Services and then Virgin Retentions and see what deals you can get and go for the better one

Cost as on Virgin's website

500GB Tivo Box FREE
Installation 49.95

Monthly Fee 5 a month unless you join one of their Collections packages either the Premier Collection or the VIP Collection

If you take out the new Premier Collection then you will get the Installation for Free

1TB Tivo Box 49.95
Installation 49.95

You can get a Free 1TB Tivo box and Free Installation if you take out the new VIP Collection package

You can Mix and Match both packages to suite your needs,
if you take out the VIP Collection for example you do not need to have Sky Sports and/or Sky Movies with it, you can take these channels off your Account

See Virgin's Website Here for further information http://my.virginmedia.com/customer-n...s/collections/

Er nope. If you take off the Premium channels, it won't be the VIP Collection

So it will be the Premier Collection with the extras

Yes, so only the offers available when you take out the Premiere Collection will apply

You cannot buy a second hand cable anything, all equipment to be used with Virgin has to come from Virgin.

And it doesn't matter where the V+ or TiVo comes from - it still belongs to VM - whoever you buy it from.

Can existing customers upgrade to VIP to get a 1tb box and free installation and then downgrade after a month, or is there a minimum period requirement?

Not necessarily, the legalities aren't as clear cut as one would think. For example, if a former customer fails to return a box and VM charge them for it, it could be argued that the box (albeit useless) belongs to the former customer to do as they please with, including selling it.

You'd get a lovely door stopper! Virgin will not activate a bought product from eBay or like sites (even if Virgin branded). Even if you put the smart card in it. Will be almost useless.

All Virgin Media modems and set top boxes belong to Virgin Media and people selling them online are illegally selling these boxes.

I see Virgin TiVo remotes for sale on eBay. Do Virgin not just replace broken ones? Why would you buy one online?

They will send out replacement remotes free, they have done this a number of times for us. Firstly was actually their mistake as they gave us a V+ but the remote they supplied was wrong (wouldn't operate recording features) so they mailed out a proper V+ one immediately. Then I had an issue with the Tivo remote not responding sometimes and so they mailed me another Tivo remote free of charge. Actually the first one seemed to come back to life a few weeks later and was fine since but at least I still have the second one as a spare or if I ever need to use the box in a second location.

So, yeah absolutely no need to buy anything VM related online at all, if it breaks they fix it (and usually very quickly indeed to give them their dues).

You have to remember we hire the kit not buy it so they have to repair it.and you have to return it.
