The Rolling Stones Still Going After 50 Years
While there are proclaimed, by self or by industry, King and Queens of Rock-n-Roll music, this group is the Master of them all. Still as energetic, entertaining and exciting now as they were in the early 1960s, The Rolling Stones have a sound that is uniquely all them that no other group has come close to matching. The Stones are one of my all time favourite bands. Their sixties and early seventies records are outstanding, but as a band they should have called it a day in the eighties (imo).

I disagree. I find them boring as hell, with the exception of a few decent songs they did back in the 60s.
They really should have called it quits years ago. |

bit like the Beatles and the Who for me - can appreciate they are amazing bands and have written some amazing songs and albums but they dont quite do it for me and at times find it a chore to listen to their music.

Love them.
Can't listen to Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, The Answer, heck, even AC/DC, without hearing remnants of The Stones. |

I've always liked the Stones from the days when they first started..........
I suppose it was sometime in the 70s that I stopped listening to their new albums as and when they came out But still heard odd decent tracks here and there I thought 'Love is strong' from 1994 was worthy of being a Stones tracks from the golden age but I've not heard much else from the last 20-25 years that has stayed with me One of my pastimes when I'm bored is scouring YouTube looking for the best 'Gimme Shelter Babe'............so far Lisa Fischer is in the lead.......... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5TrtJdGp-M0 |

the Stones are LEGEND. Fav song of all time is Sympathy....Their best work is defo mid sixties to early seventies. They are syill going strong on the back catalogue. As long as they still play the classics's then long may they continue. Definition of stamina

I have been a fan since 1965 - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction was the first single I bought and have seen them live loads of times and it is true that their early Concerts were Magical but over the years it has got far more staged so some of the raw energy has been lost but taken in their age they can still overshadow most of the current Bands.

In recent years my fave Stones single has been Brown Sugar. Some others I like are Let's Spend the Night Together, Paint it Black and Emotional Rescue. Ironically, there was a cover version of Paint it Black (by the Modettes) when Emotional Rescue was in the charts!

It's always interesting that the Stones get lauded for carrying on so long, their energy etc, when someone like Madonna just get ridiculed.
As for their music..well, they've done nothing of note for 30 years but I admire them for still going. |

This might be interesting............well, it's an idea
Like a few people here (fans like me and uncommitted) I haven't really heard much of what they've done in the last 25 years.............to be fair I haven't heard much of anybody else's output either as I gave up listening to pop/rock maybe 20 years ago and have only dipped in a couple of times since So.......any fans who have carried out following the Stones for the last 25 years can you YouTube any song that you think Stones fans of the 60s and 70s might like but have probably never heard ? In other words have they done anything in the last 25 years which might make it onto a 'Best Of' album ? As I mentionned earlier the only song I can think of from this period which is as good as the old stuff is 'Love Is Strong' from the early 90s...............terrific video as well ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPC8c9iokP8 |

I love the Stones. I say if they still love what they do they should keep touring. I don't buy into the belief that bands can be 'past their sell by date'.
Here are a few of my favs http://youtu.be/bj8lRssjN48 - Beast of Burden http://youtu.be/6H3QcpvcIrY - Sympathy for the Devil http://youtu.be/g69labQKuuU - Wild Horses http://youtu.be/3B0Y3LUqr1Q - Brown Sugar Edit - Another fav http://youtu.be/5e1_K-JDfOk - Honky Tonk Woman |

The Stones had a long list of terrific singles and B-sides in their early days-though I personally thought Honky Tonk Women was the last of the good ones. I never took to their albums, though, as I found them too bluesy to my taste. One exception to this was "Her Satanic Majesty's Request" which I loved.
