Could Britney's new music been record breaking hits if sung by Rihanna or Gaga?
Ever since Britney came back with her her comeback album Blackout onwards. Chart wise, it hasn't been great for Britney in the UK or even worldwide really.
Her newest album Femme Fatale was her lowest sales tally to date but had some of her greatest hits to date on the album personally. Since Blackout, she has come back with amazing songs such as Gimme More, Piece Of Me, Radar, Circus, Hold It Against Me, Till The World Ends, Criminal and many more! But why haven't they done well...like I've said before on previous threads, her name has been tarnished by lip syncing claims etc. But my personal belief is that if these songs were sung and performed by the likes of Rihanna and Gaga then these probably would have been their biggest hits! People seem to dismiss the amazingness of these songs simply because its Britney. |

'Womanizer' and 'Till The World Ends' were worldwide smashes. Besides, Rihanna and GaGa don't have "record breaking hits" in abundance. Each artist is lucky if an album spawns 2 memorable smashes, so I don't see why Britney's success is discredited in this thread. She's been very successful in her own right, up there with Rihanna, GaGa and all the other popular singles sellers.

Well this certainly does not help, Lack of promotion, Jive mangement! and ofcourse music leaks. And i hate leaks of music thats already going to be released. Some people should be ashamed of themselves.

I think if she releases new music whilst on the x factor this year then it'll be pretty huge, she'll be having a lot more promotion.

Gimme More, Womaniser and Till The World Ends were major hits, though.
![]() She maybe hasn't enjoyed endless weeks at #1 and massive single sales in the past few years like Gaga, Rihanna et all, but you're comparing someone 10+ years into their career who does minimal promotion, with artists in their prime and at the top of the game. I think generally the Britney singles that make impact are the right ones, and the weaker ones don't. I can't see Criminal - for instance - being released by Gaga or Rihanna and becoming a record breaking hit. It just isn't strong enough. Her main problems are exposure, promotion and relevance...all of which will be tackled by her stint on XF, which is why she's doing it. |

I think with the exception of Criminal (which personally I don't like), Femme Fatale was one of the best pop albums in the past few years. The songs were brilliant!
But as others have said, Britney's been around a lot longer and has minimal exposure whereas the likes of Gaga and Rihanna are EVERYWHERE at the moment (and Rihanna churns out albums and singles like there's no tomorrow now haha!)

To us living in the UK, especially last year, it may look like Britney is a flop, but in the US (and worldwide), she's been doing very well imo. Not every song has been a hit of course, but it's the same with Rihanna and Lady Gaga (and practically every other pop star in history).

That's true, three of Britney's four singles in US have gone top 10 which is the first time Britney's had three singles from one album go top 10 and have all gone platinum.

Till The World ends would've been the biggest selling song of the year in it's genre if Kesha had kept it.
