LED 42 inch 3D TV recommendation

Hi
I'm currently looking into purchasing a LED TV which should be around 42 inch. However I find the whole 3D TV confusing.
I don't see there are many channels providing 3d but I still wish to future proof for this.
What TV with a budget of 700 what would you recommend?

And is Samsung better than Panasonic for LED?

thanks in advance

Any 3D LED TV available today is far from future proof.

That will come with OLED and Glasees free 3D... although that will proably be old hat too in a couple of years.

Best thing is to buy a decent TV as cheaply as possible, so when you replace in a few years time you wont cry over the £2,000 you spent this time round. There arle oads of LED and Plasma at your size for about £500.

And dont buy a TV for 3D. Go round a mates, watch it once, and you'll be sorted.

Watching 3D in your home is not all bad. It depends on the content your watching. The BBC are due to air some of the Olympics in 3D on the BBC HD channel which should be worth watching. Sky have a dedicated 3D channel but to get it you need to subscribe to SKY World and that can be expensive.

And as for are Samsung better than Panasonic, then the answer is NO. Samsung have some stunning LCD/LED screens available but you'd be hard pushed to find a 42" for the money your willing to spend. list below.

John Lewis is worth a look as their TV's come with a free 5 year warranty.

That doesn't really help him as the cheapest one of your recommendations is £200 over his budget.

I used to be a Samsung fan but of late and my last tv and surround sound. The reliability is nowhere near as good as Panasonic and as industry review people have said that Panasonic picture quality is the best I suppose the OP should believe you just because you have a Samsung. The only real good worth buying Samsung as heard from various people and from seeing them in customers homes is the 8000 series which has been discontinued I believe.

I wouldn't imagine many people would spend £8000 on an OLED TV. Both LG and Samsung have 55" models of these but the price is huge and I don't see it lowering anytime soon.

I never said Samsung WAS as good or reliable as Panasonic. I was pointing out that £700 wouldn't get him a decent sized Samsung screen nor was I recommending he buy a Samsung. He asked if Samsung where better than Panasonic for LED and I said NO. So how is that telling him Samsung's are better. read the post correctly next time.

But this link ttp://www.richersounds.com/product/...pana-txp42gt30
Refers to a Panasonic 42 inch Plasma TV.
I thought LED were better than Plasma hence I why I was looking for one?

LED is LCD. Plasma is better for viewing without a doubt and Panasonic's are better than Samsung's. All I can suggest is that you ask for an in store demo of the tv's you fancy and/or do an online search for the tv that best suits you.

That's what I thought I'll I got rid of my loyalty to sammy. Panasonic vt30b I bought and I can safely say after downloading a thx screen calibration blue ray it's the best screen I've seen for a while. My opinion I know.
I also install sky etc and do get to see a few models. The panny panels are my new face and the one I posted earlier has the same panel. Just lacking a few features the vt30 has.

Have Panasonic got rid of that awful EPG yet? Totally lets down a good product....
Nothing wrong with the Samsung sets, some people just can't resist slagging them off.
Brand loyalty makes for bad objectivity. Most of the mainstream manufacturers TV's are good products. Plasma v LCD/LED is really down to personal preference these days. If the budget won't run to a larger set with 3D, get one without, believe me, you won't be missing anything.....

Yeah they do mate. But excel at plasmas. I changed to plasma at Xmas and ill never look back. Its as thin as an LCD now and much superior picture. I had samsungs for years up till the 8000 series.

Nice screens and nice prices lol. I wasn't sure if they made them as i thought Plasma was more their style.

This is my first Samsung and imo the PQ is stunning, especially the HD and 3D content.

I know that Samsung, Sony, LG and Panasonic all have great LED TV sets. But, if you are looking for the best savings on an excellent LED/LCD HDTV, then I think you should consider the LG 42 LW550T model. This unit has gotten excellent consumer reviews on argos.com from the people that have purchased it, a very good sign. 1080p, 3D, Smart TV function, and it includes several 3D glasses and the magic motion remote. Great deal IMO.

No offense but customer reviews are a bit biased IMO. Nobody want to admit to spending hundreds on something to then system its rubbish.

Better ? lol. anyway customer reviews are what people are looking for imo. They go out and spend hundreds or in some cases thousands of £'s on products and give their own review on it's good and bad points. In this case, a TV. and it helps people decide which is best for them.

So many different opinions on this thread lol.. From my personal experience, you don't want to go with Samsung if you're buying a TV for 3D. The active 3D is very uncomfortable and inconvenient. I'd go with Panasonic in this case but you should also consider LG's LW series. For your budget, I say they're the best bang for the buck. You don't want to get a TV with a tight budget and not feel like you spent the right amount of money. and I see that you're concerned about the lack of 3D channels. LG TVs have a feature called 2D to 3D conversion where you can watch any 2D contents in 3D. I want you to consider these options and good luck with your shopping!

2D to 3D conversion is rubbish. Most 3D capable TV's have it.

Panasonic use Active Shutter glasses too. And I'm not sure what you mean by uncomfortable and inconvenient? Never bothered me apart from the price of them but the TV I bought came with 2 pairs anyway so no worries.
