I think Gus Huddink could be very good for Liverpolol as long as he's given the money to spend and that he gets to act/be the boss too rather than the players wagging the dogs tail as they seem to do too much in too many clubs these days and that should never be allowed anyway anywhere either!

Has the club got the money for this though? I think Liverpool should maybe put off going for a new stadium until they reach great heights again on a consistent basis.

Who would be your choice?

Can't get better than Hiddink in my opinion. Plays good football, great man manager, great with the press.

Martin O'Neil would be my No.2. Gets 100% out of the players available. Maybe not always the most attractive football though. i don't think he'd swap Sunderland for Liverpool though.

David Moyes my No.3 but that's obviously not an option..

For getting the best league position out of the squad available they're the best imo.

Let's be honest, it's hard to see them coming up with someone who'll deliver the comedy value that Rafa, Hodgson and Dalglish have. This run has to end at some point, surely.

To give Rafa his credit he did win the Champions League though before going all wobbly.

I would go for AVB, chewed up and spat out by Chelsea but clearly a very talented coach who will work wonders for them if given time to build.

Why would Hiddink go to an 8th placed team that only has EL football next season?

What did you expect him to do, win the Premiership with Aston Villa or Sunderland FFS?

Can you not understand that only a few clubs can now win the Premiership irrespective of their manager. Is that too difficult for you?

Yea, he got Villa into the Europa league several times. I don't remember anyone else doing that recently.

Good luck trying to get Gus out from his Anzai contract!

This is the club who pay Eto'o over £200,000 a week, so Gus' contract won't be small!

No he never

O'Neill was introduced as the Aston Villa manager at a press conference on 4 August 2006. At the press conference he stated "It's absolutely fantastic to be back and with a club such as this. This is a fantastic challenge. I am well aware of the history of this football club. Trying to restore it to its days of former glory seems a long way away – but why not try? It is nearly 25 years since they won the European Cup but that is the dream."[21]

Villa had the year's longest unbeaten start of any Premier League side in 2006–07 (9 games), not losing a league game until 28 October. Villa suffered a mid-season slump but recovered late in the season, winning their three away games in April, to end the season how it began with a run of 9 unbeaten fixtures. For this O'Neill scooped the Barclays Manager of the Month for April.[22] Villa's final points tally was 50, an improvement of 8 over the previous season and finished 11th, 5 places higher than the previous season.[citation needed]

Aston Villa's owner Randy Lerner said that he would not stop O'Neill from leaving Villa if offered the job of England manager,[23] because he respects that it is a very prestigious position.[23] O'Neill later dismissed the reports, calling them "unfair speculation".[24]

Aston Villa just missed out on a UEFA Cup spot on the final day of the 2007–08 season and qualified for the Intertoto Cup by finishing 6th. They scored 71 goals, (their best ever tally in the Premier League and best tally since winning the title in 1981), gained 60 points which was Villa's highest points tally since 1996–97, and were the third highest goalscorers.[25] After 25 games of the 2008–09 season the club were third in the table on 51 points, 2 points above Chelsea on level games and 7 points above Arsenal in 5th place and on course for a place in the Champions League for the first time since 1983. O'Neill then decided to prioritise Champions League qualification above all else, fielding a virtual reserve side for a UEFA Cup game against CSKA Moscow which was subsequently lost.[26] Following this, Villa failed to win any of the next 10 league games and improving form for Arsenal & Chelsea meant that Villa failed to reach the top 4.

At the start of the 2009–10 season Villa failed to qualify for the group stage of the newly named Europa League, but continued their progress in the league with wins against Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool.[27] Arsenal defeated Villa 3–0 at Emirates Stadium, and drew at home.[27]

Once again Villa finished 6th for the 3rd season running, and once again improved their points tally finishing with 64 points; their poor home form (they drew 8 times at home) denied them a chance to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

Aston Villa reached their first final under Martin O'Neill, and first final in 10 years on 28 February 2010 against Manchester United in the Carling Cup, but lost 2–1.[28]

Following the departure of Rafael Benitez from Liverpool in June 2010, Martin O'Neill was thought to be one of the main candidates for the manager's job at Anfield,[29] but former Fulham boss Roy Hodgson was ultimately appointed as Benitez's successor.[30]

On 9 August 2010, O'Neill resigned as manager of Aston Villa with immediate effect

Andre Villas-Boas would be my choice and top level and very talented choice as proven by his season at Porto that never got the chance to get his style injected into Chelsea due to Cliques and the owner not backing him! He'd have less pressure at Liverpool and more time (should he meet the realitic targets which are no where near the expectations at Chelsea) and players such as Henderson, Carroll and Downing could benefit from his modern detailed style of management!

David O'Leary got Leeds into the Champions League, is he a better manager than O'Neil?

Graham Taylor won the Prem with Villa, is he a better manager than O'Neil?

I think he's have more pressure from the stands than the boardroom at LFC.

The challenge? Trying to revive a once great club to achieve its former consistent glories? Money too?

Talksport just reported Paddy Power have suspended betting on AVB being the new manager........if that is true.
