Cd Singles
I was in Asda yesterday and noticed they are selling a cd single of the Eurovision song by Englebert Humperdink. I nearly fell over when I saw the price. £5! Yes £5 for a single! Will they seriously sell any of these when we all know you can download it legally for about 99p? I rarely see CD singles on sale nowadays. Supermarkets like Asda and Tesco seem to stock X factor winner singles and charity singles but you dont see the top 40 cd singles on sale in HMV or anywhere really. Can you buy cd singles of latest releases anywhere now or do they only release cd singles of X factor winners and Eurovision entries? But going back to my original point £5 is the most expensive single I have ever seen!!

It's very rare an artist releases CD Singles nowadays and when they do I never see them in the shops. Madonnas latest single came out this week but i've only seen it on HMV.com.
I personally love singles and have hundreds and hundreds of them and it's sad to see them go 7"s seem to be on the rise though which kinda compensates. I'd prefer both though. It think they became far too expensive for what they are. They all became pretty much exclusively 2-track affairs which weren't worth buying. Remember the days when singles contained 3 or 4 extra songs, or half a dozen remixes on multiple formats... They were worth buying

I remember you being able to buy new release CD singles for 99p on the day of release and they used to have loads of tracks or remixes on. Great value. Then Gallup changed the rules and said an artist who released a single with more than 3 songs or a certain number of minutes wouldn't be counted as a sale for the charts. So a great promo gimmick was stopped overnight and CD singles became a rip off

This CD single has 3 tracks and is £2 on Amazon.
If you like the artist I'd say that's a bargain. CD singles are great. Those were golden years when you could go into Our Price on the Monday of release and buy CD1 & CD2 for £1.99 each and get 4 or 5 bonus tracks (songs that didn't fit on the album, extended mixes, remixes, acoustic versions, live versions, the official video to play on your computer). |

My local HMV has a very small section near the tills for CD singles, and they're mainly crappy "talent" show winners so, I doubt you'll find any from real artists.
