Do any of you nice people have a spare UK slide-on plug for the Apple charger (like you get in their World Travel Adapter Kit)? I could swap for a European or US one.

Can't you just buy a cheap travel adapter. I had one I used in the US recently and it charged my iPhone without any bother. They are usually just a couple of £.
