If you mean a Foxsat-hdr, it needs to be EXT3 for files larger than 4GB.

Yes that's what I mean.

Thanks for the info, I'd probably ended up formatting in ext2 or ext4 without knowing.

I'm going to try with a spare 32GB Class 10 Micro SD Card in a USB card reader until I can get old of an external enclosure and rip a spare HDD out of the old Desktop PC.

EXT2 is said to work with flash memory devices. Not tried it personally.

You can read/write EXT2 and EXT3 on a PC in windows using EXT2FSD.

Did this the other day as the drive was getting full and I had an underutilised Buffalo Ministation to hand.

I have a netbook running Ubuntu which has a great number of formatting choices including EXT3.

It works perfectly and the Foxsat drive is now back to about 65%. The Ministation is plugged in the rear USB port all the time and is small enough to be out of sight.

I'm considering getting a full size HDD enclosure or just getting a cheap 2.5" external HDD, but as a Class 10 Micro SD is pretty fast an extra 32GB will do nicely as a start.

I've got MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition on my Notebook and it does all the basic file formats Fat/Fat 32, NTFS, EXT 2/3/4 & Linux Swap so the setup of the drive/Flash drive is pretty much taken care of.

I just cant decide between a 500GB external drive giving me a 1TB combined storage or a 1TB external drive giving me a combined total storage of 1.5TB. Once out of warranty I might go for a 1TB internal upgrade.
