So America loves soul type singers such as Adele, Amy, Duffy etc but don't want to vote for Joshua, that just seems daft (not that anyone said that, I am talking about America). I can just imagine Philip saying he wants to record real music and his acoustic sets in tiny concert halls and I think that would be so boring.

Jimmy and the judges should have used their particular song choices to make Josh sound more contemporary just for the one show. He sang 2 songs I didn't know and Imagine wasn't the greatest of choices so that's what lost it for him.

American teenage girls should be given pills during the live shows to stop their hormones....

Will be interesting to see if that actually happens, that she wins, I mean. I've seen quite a few very good singers lose out over the years, and came to some conclusions, and so far same conclusions continue to happen, and not just in AI but in other song contests. If she wins well and good.

Fingers crossed. When she sings slow songs like Dance With My Father, You Are So Beautiful and I Will Always Love You it is out of this world. Philip is just too bland and average for me. I appreciate he is probably a good musician, singer and song writer but lets hope America votes for someone with an exceptional voice. We lost a great singer tonight and hopefully the Joshua fans will now support Jessica to the victory.

Well that's another season of AI that I give up on before the final. Don't like either of the final 2 and really don't care who wins. For me, Joshua was a class above anyone else this year and in my top 3 of all time contestants.

Yep it was gutting. Over the series I liked Joshua and felt he gave a good performance every week and would of been a deserved winner. Jessica was my next favourite so will hope that she can win now....

Joshua has an awesome voice and a showman - he really is the second James Brown. What on earth is wrong with America. I hope that Joshua achieves the same fame as Jennifer Hudson as she came seventh, for some it is better not to win AI (although Melinda never received the fame she should have).

Yeah well America did decide to Vote out Hollie and the judges saved Jessica with America magically deciding to keep her in unjustly so it is America's fault she is still there.


Yep the standing ovations for average performances you can see in pubs all around the world did not help. Different class, agreed, he was so rubbish and undeserving top 3 place, no way near as good as was made out to be by the show. I mean even thier best efforts at manipulation for a Joshua Jessica final cannot stop Phillip who deserves to win.

Erm.... How? She has had the least amount of votes in the competition. Phillip has never been in the bottom three ever. Looks like the landslide is in his favour not hers. Downloads don't mean anything really in terms of voting. And why would Joshua's voters go with her? It seems this year so many viewers are going along with what Who-pez and the other judges keep saying. And they have only been saying for those two to be in the final because of what Who-pez said when they did a rubbish duet weeks ago.

Phillip is the winner of American idol this year. He HAS to win to prove the show is still credible. And the judges need replacing, all of them, even Randy as he is not the same anymore. Start afresh with new judges who can properly judge.

Joshua and Jessica both have good voices but they are both musically immature. P2 has a voice that is usually stuck in his throat but is at least musically mature. All three are stuck with little versatility as shown by their own song selections at top 3. Unfortunately, like last year with Scottie, P2 has been, don't know exactly why, winning this from before the live shows.

Well a lot of the non winners do well like obviously Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Pickler, Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Katherin McPhee and probably some others so Joshua will be ok. One review said Joshua was never going to win as he was in the bottom 3 in the first week but surely then this figures that Jessica won't win as she was technically voted off and only stayed because of the judges.

Bottom line is we're dealing with Middle America: Joshua is not white & he's a little camp. Phillip is excruciatingly dull, with strangled voice, little charisma, essentially a guitar player, but he's white with blue eyes & teenage girls are hooked.

for everyone who was slating Jessica for not hitting the big notes, she was actually suffering from a severe throat infection. Hopefully she will be better for the finale and then can really show everyone how she can sing Phillip off the stage. When she’s at her best and choosing the right songs Phillip’s ‘charm’ has no power against her voice. Looking forward to the finale, it will be interesting to see how it goes down, I really don’t think it’s a clear cut victory for Phillip as all of the crazy obsessed Phillip fans do!

Jessica has only been in the bottom once and since then her fans woke up. Its no surprise they called her safe first this week. The world knew she would make the final. Philip is more an artist where Joshua and Jessica are great vocalists. People who appreciate good singers ie- Joshua fans will vote for Jessica this week.

When it comes to singing she does not need to get out of first gear to be some way in front of Philip. On vocal ability it is a one horse race. Sadly in America teenage girls like a good looking lad that can sing ok and play a guitar. What ever happens Jessica and Joshua will be the real winners when it comes to selling albums and being world wide stars. Class will always come through...

You're not familiar with America, I take it. Because while people here might vote on those grounds, it's a lot less likely to happen in America, where talent is appreciated. In case no-one had noticed, Jessica also isn't white or blue-eyed.

So maybe, just maybe, Joshua (a) wasn't as original as Jessica or Philip, or (b) more people didn't share your opinion than did.

To be honest alot of people think the show will really be past it with a Phillip victory. It's now delivering the same type of winners 5 times in a row. All attractive white guys with guitars. Even the website 'Vote For The Worst' is backing Phillip to win as they know it will harm the credibility of the show.

Take away Phillip's looks and I wonder how he'd really have done.
The problem is these teenage girls don't go on to buy the records, so then the winner doesn't live up to the expectations based on their vote count.

There seems to be an overwhelming reaction to Jessica's talents. Even the DS poll always has her performances as the best each week.
I hope alot of potential Joshua votes will go to Jessica now but I'm not too confident it will be enough against an obsessive teen vote.

America likes the commercial versions more than the real thing obviously . Having said that Joshua's style was too dated to be commercial , He needs to update to be truly successful

Jessica is Mexican-Phillipino, she's not black. Middle America teenage girls can identify with a 16 year old. But, they're not likely to fancy Joshua, unlike Phillip.

Phillip showed no originality whatsoever. Josh & Jessica were very evenly matched in terms of voice power, range, originality.

The year Adam Lambert featured, I can't remember the actual winner. Phillip is similarly mediocre & forgetable.

I have a hard time believing that most Americans would accept that she's a white girl

The problem for me was Joshua was ridiculously over hyped - if the judges had given the same critique as Jimmy then Joshua may have been in the final but the public do not like being taken for fools and the judges have been doing that week after week by praising mediocre performances.

Philip is quite unique but the judges don't like that and neither does Jimmy despite what he says. In both of their picks they tried to change his range completely but he managed to come through. I think Steven's right - he could be great with original material but it has to be right.

I like Jessica but like Joshua I feel she is over hyped. After a fantastic start to the competition I feel as if she's lost her way slightly; maybe being in the bottom two dented her confidence but on the performance show she didn't really stand out as anything special. When Adam Lambert performed I though 'wow, he could've won this year if he'd entered'. I don't think I'll feel that about Jessica if she ever returns unless she can refind her earlier confidence.

I think that several of the singers could have reasonable careers.

Phillip will probably want to "be himself" on the final, so may thow it away. His career (winner or not) will depend on whether he is allowed to record his own songs - and of course whether they are actually any good!

Jessica has had some good performances, but many which have been unmemorable. I still think that she is too young.

Joshua - there is probably a gospel circuit in America on which he would be perfect. I could not understand why the judges gave him so many standing ovations. He often seemed to me to be close to being very good but just failing.

Hollie could do well - I thought that she should have immediately switched to doing country songs when Skylar left, to try for the country vote.

Skylar will succeed - country is still very strong in the USA and I'm sure that there will be a number of writers who will be keen to give her songs.

Elise will also be in demand locally, even if not nationally.

It's a hard job being a judge - you have to try to find something different to say all the time and no doubt become attached to the artists you have seen for many weeks. I doubt that many of the judges will remember many of the contestants for long after the end of the series though!
