Verse = She sounds like the love child of Grace Jones & David Bowie.
Chorus = You'll be able to count on one hand the number of new singles released in 2013 with a stronger hook.
Music = Early 1990s meets 2013 in a very good way.

Crucially, unlike BTW and the wretched Judas she sounds more natural and less try-hard/forced which is very good thing.

However, I reckon Roar will outsell it even if I don't think it is nowhere near as good because that track is far safer and more 2013 Taylor Swift/Disney-pop commercially friendly to Radio and downloaders in 2013.

Agreed.

Hmm, I don't like the Judas hate, but I agree in the sense that she sounds like she's just having fun and isn't so much focusing on a ''concept'' and a ''theme'' and a ''cultural baptism''.

I don't know about that anymore! The lyrics in this are definitely for her fans, but the chorus has a great hook and it's far more accessible than I thought it would be.

Plus, we have the video in the next week AND the VMAs, and Gaga will certainly come out of that better than Katy judging by the fact that Katy will have to sing her chorus live.

Damn it. You're right. But still, Gaga's known for being a better performer and if she pulls it out of the bag at the VMAs it could work in her favour big time.

Can't wait to see how she performs this live - I can't even begin to imagine how the video will be either!!
I have to say I wasn't blown away when I first heard it but after more listens I really like it now. That chorus is the shiz! It's so euphoric and I can just imagine dancing away to this

When can we buy it over here in Europe? Anybody know? I need this on my ipod...

I love the way she sings the verses, and I hope she can recreate the effects when she sings it live. It's a shame it was leaked whichever way you want to believe it happened. I was looking forward to having the single and the video at the same time... I wonder whether the video will now be released early?

Going to go for another listen now

EDIT:

She's tweeted this:
@ladygaga CAN'T BELIEVE THEY BLEEPING OUT KOONS THEY THINK IM SAYING THE C WORD

The chorus is great but the rest sounds a little well not bad but not really that great either maybe it will grow on me, the video should be interesting thought.

LOVE!!!!!!!

Our girl is back

SLAY!!!

But I do think it's brilliant, I can't always make out the words but it doesn't bother me too much, the chorus is very infectious. Agreed with Diane_Rob, I need it on my iPhone like right now
Check it out

It's so much fun. It is infectious. Gosh It really gets better on repeated listening.

The vocals could be a bit louder, but ah well.

The people hating on it simply because it's a Gaga track really bother me, but ah well. There's always some.

Buzzing for the video and the VMAs now!

My thoughts PRECISELY.

Also, her tweets are absolutely hilarious. When people criticise her I don't think they realise that she is deliberately quite facetious - when she says things like 'pop music emergency' she's just being playful and funny, it's what I love about her so much.

God, I was so worried with the snippets but I really do love this song, I can't wait to dance to it in the clubs. And if Roar does outsell it (which it 90% will given its radio-friendliness), then I don't care - plus Gaga's album sales will more than compensate

Gotta join in with the love. I'm just so glad she's back. Bring on the video and VMAs!

I have no idea what the video is even going to be like... Inez and Vidooh + Applause + Gaga? I really hope that the concept is clear - i don't mind if it's multi-layered but I want something colourful and fun with a cheeky sense of humour, this song is crying out for it! I wonder what the choreo will be like... VMAS SO SOON!!!!

I'm sorry you don't like it!!

Just think of it as the equivalent of what Just Dance was to Poker Face or Paparazzi, if that helps! This is just one song, and there's loads more to come with the album! Also watching the video or a live performance might help you like it more!

I love the chorus and the general song, but I have slight issues with the verses (messy, ill-fitting lyrics). Although, with each repeat I'm getting over that.

It's fun, it's catchy and it's probably what the doctor ordered for her. Expected something more epic and sonically interesting, but it is a good pop song. Certainly the best of the year. Guess I just have very high standards for her. :P

-

How cool would the VMA performance be if it positions her as an electro Tinkerbell? Ties in the early "corrupt Disney" stuff and the song well. Fun, silly and potentially epic.

I've never been so disappointed even with BTW which I wasn't into that much.

I can deal with the chorus but everything else is a disaster. I mean the verses and the lyrics (when I managed to get what she was singing) are...

Let me log off and calm down

The verses are messy, and I'm a little bit annoyed at her throwing in a Koons reference just because they're friends and he's a cool artist and now she's a cool artist and they have the lulz, but she knows how to write a great pop verse and has done so many times - it makes me wonder what she's playing at. I loved the verses in Burqa, so she clearly hasn't lost it.

But what reason would she have for being purposefully clunky? Maybe the video/performances/interviews will reveal more. Hopefully, or else they're just a mess.

But I kinda like the off-kilter aspect too, because she is a little on the off-kilter side herself, it must be said. I'm entertained by the thought of her gone power-mad already. ''I'm the queen of the universe every day'', etc.

I've been listening and thinking about BTW lately, and I've realised I don't consider it a generally bad album.

Songs like Heavy Metal Lover, Hair, Bad Kids, Electric Chapel I love, I prefer it to the likes of You and I but I can understand why that got released instead.

I think the disappointment came from I was expecting another The Fame/The Fame Monster. Although now I'm glad she didn't and she did experiment with this.

I wouldn't necessarily have used the same singles for the campaign though.

But now looking onto ARTPOP and listening to Applause I generally have a good feeling about it and can't wait to see what concepts etc she decides on this time.

Her sense of humour coming back again - I don't think people should be worried about this next album!

I feel bad for them. The era launch must have been meticulously planned, and it's now just a hot mess.

Any inkling I had that this leaking was a stunt has gone on the window. They're probably going to miss out on #1 without the video debuting at the same time, there's no clear debut for the single - it's all over the place - with no banners and buying the single isn't even straight forward (two versions, have to buy from album), they're sharing attention with Roar, probably trying to get a radio deal in place and are rush releasing a lyric video.

The promo video, V cover shoot etc. will probably all get lost in the noise.
