I feel bad for them. The era launch must have been meticulously planned, and it's now just a hot mess.

Any inkling I had that this leaking was a stunt has gone on the window. They're probably going to miss out on #1 without the video debuting at the same time, there's no clear debut for the single - it's all over the place - with no banners and buying the single isn't even straight forward (two versions, have to buy from album), they're sharing attention with Roar, probably trying to get a radio deal in place and are rush releasing a lyric video.

The promo video, V cover shoot etc. will probably all get lost in the noise.
I would imagine after all the planning Gaga is spitting feathers over it.
The thing is it's all happened before and you would think in a digital age when it only takes seconds to send a file anywhere in the world that they would have found a way of keeping the flipping tracks under lock and key then send them out at the last minute. They don't even have to press physicals till the last moment.
There was a review of Applause on line yesterday morning from a random blogger who had clearly heard it, That's a week before release date so someone must have given him a copy

We know record companies do leak stuff deliberately but need to get their act together because in this case they have screwed up big time and I feel sorry for her.

I loved the booing in the background nice to see she's having a laugh about it all. Applause as grown on me a little still wish the verse won't so messy but the chorus makes up for it.

Had laugh at that - it could have been made especially for the Digital Spy music forum

I think that video proves she lurks ATRL.

I'm disappointed by the state of the release as well, the iTunes thing is a mess.

It's a shame but I'm finding it hard to care because I'm loving this song! I like how clunky the verses are and love how she's poking fun at herself with the kunst line, I think she's also insinuating that sometimes people think she's a c u next Tuesday but that at other times these same people love her.

I think my play count is something like 30 already...

My thoughts and opinion on Applause:

• The chorus is pretty phenomenal. It sounds expansive, euphoric and catchy. The lyrics are pretty good, but more about that later. A P P L A U S E is fantastic too. *EDIT* I'm on about my twentieth listen at this stage and the chorus is sounding better and better, it's sick. You can't beat a Gaga chorus.

• The pre-chorus is average. Nothing wrong with it, nothing great about it. It's not very Gaga, it sounds like anyone could have done it.

• The verses are for me the weakest part of this song. That "analogue sounding instrumental beat thing" (I literally have no finesse with my words today, forgive me) that you hear from the beginning of the songs and throughout the verses is for me (and I suspect for many the casual casual listener) rather cheap, tacky (almost Halloween-ish!) and grating. It just doesn't sound right, it's not aurally pleasing to hear, it sounds like it needs some adjusting. I like how intelligent the lyrics in the verses are, though I do feel that these will over the heads of a lot of listeners and maybe even alienate some who believe her to be overly pretentious.

• I am finding more and more that Gaga's pronunciation to be a major problem on a lot of the songs she has releases (since Born This Way really). I'm not sure whether it's Gaga's delivery, her producers drowning her out or (most likely) a combination of both but I found many of the lines on this song indecipherable. For example, "Give me the thing that I love" to me sounds like a slurred "Gimme the thing dah dah duh" and "Make it real loud" sounds like "Make it real now". It's a recurring problem (The Queen, Bad Kids, Judas etc.) and it needs tackling. The general public tend to like being able to sing along somewhat competently to their pop bangers.

• Regarding the production, I simultaneously love and hate it. I enjoy the solid beat, the real applause heard during the song, and the chorus. I dislike the aforementioned analogue sound thing, the treatment the vocals have received, the generic quality of the pre-chorus. I also think the production is very busy. Perhaps not as busy as Born This Way but still, I think Gaga and her producers have yet to learn that less is more. I almost wished that Madeon had produced this track and the DJ White Shadow had been relegated to some album tracks, I think we would have gotten a fresher sounding and more polished and refined piece of work had that happened.

• Gaga has made a valiant effort to simultaneously craft a song that is commercially viable and likeable but also somewhat personalised and envelope-pushing. I think she has done as good a job as anyone could have done. It seems to me that you're not going to please everyone all the time. With Applause, she seems to have aimed for a commercially successful smash hit and I just hope that the chorus is strong enough to deliver this for her. For her to invest so much in the EDM movement (look at her producers), it would be a shame to see it backfire on her. She would be seen as behind the cutting edge trends trends (Daft Punk-esque disco-fied pop with real instruments) that she has a reputation up until now for setting.

• I love the A R T P O P at the end, I think it should be utilised on all the album promo from now on.

• Chart-wise, I predict that Applause will be lucky to reach the Top 10 in the US (Roar and Blurred Lines especially are going to slay this song over there, I'm sorry to say). In the UK and elsewhere, I predict the song will fare better. A Top 5 position is achievable in the UK and Ireland, with a number 1 not beyond the realms of possibility. I hope she does better than this, but I think I'm being realistic.

I realise that I may seem rather negative, but I just want her to be the best that she can be and it annoys me to see her making (what I see as) the same mistakes repeatedly. And anyway, constructive criticism is good feedback because it makes people strive for better.

It's expected to hit the Top 3 in the US this week according to Billboard, and they're predicted sales of over 400k with the possibility of 500k.

At the moment, it's gaining on ''Roar'' and is up to 50% on the iTunes live pop bars, from 30%+ just a matter of hours ago.

It's also getting big play on radio and the audio is doing very well on YouTube. The only thing I don't know about is streaming services.

I'm beginning to disagree with my earlier statements about Blurred Lines. I think either ''Roar'' or ''Applause'' will be the song to breaks its run. They're both slaying.

She apparently said in an interview today that she's performing an hour of new music at the itunes festival - probs on opening night I'd imagine so that's September 1st. She also told Ryan Seacrest that she's down to the top 50 ideas for outfit for her vmas performance and has ruled out poultry and vegetables

I agree Revolution 909 - I can't understand what she's saying half the time, and her diction is definitely getting worse. It doesn't help that the production is so loud. The chorus is great though - but again I coudn't even work out when exactly she was spelling out Applause, i could hear the A-P-P but couldn't clearly hear any of the other letters. Now I just make it up as I sing along

Just bought my copy and pre-ordered ARTPOP too of course!

Also here's the interview if people want to listen:

So the Red One/Gaga penned track for Cher's forthcoming Closer to the Truth album IS going to make the cut after all.

Just not in this 2011 version that has just leaked onto the net:

Let's be honest whilst I don't think it is as good as Applause I could see this running Roar far closer to Radio airplay and record sales as it is far more generically conventional and commercial.

It's still not on itunes and it's annoying, she's missing valuable time! I hope it's not going to be like Born This Way with a Friday release and therefore split sales. Thursday at the latest! I don't get what's stalling it

That Gaga/Cher song is gayer than I could have imagined. It is catchy though.

Not sure about the Cher/Gaga song. It's catchy but not really my cup of tea. Have you guys heard the two radio interviews she did today? One with Carson Daly and the other with Ryan Seacrest? There's good stuff on there, she talks about her injury, Marina, what ARTPOP is about, what APPLAUSE is about and making the lyric video etc. It's so nice to hear her again, she sounds very happy

#3 on iTunes!!!

So excited for the iTunes festival. I hope I win tickets!

You know each year iTunes releases a mini EP of each artist with about 5 songs from their set on, I wonder if they won't be able to do that with Gaga because the songs will be from ARTPOP?
