I thought she sounded awful a lot of the time, off key and all this forcing of the voice in higher notes. She didn't even really sing a lot of the time.
It just didn't look very organised in terms of staging either, quite messy and not always in a good way. I liked Dope the best from what I've seen. I liked what she was trying to do with Bad Romance but the violinist was terrible and it just came over a bit half-finished to me. Swine, I don't know. I can see the puking is symbolic to the song and it's message and festivals are different from the Grammys or Brits or whatever, it just didn't really do it for me.
Overall I'm worried about her. If you watch this and then earlier videos of her from 2009-10 it is worrying. I can only hope that this is part of some overall grand master plan of hers or something, she just seems a bit out of it. She did look much freer and happier at times, but if this is how she sounds on tour then I'm not as excited about going as I was... Sorry to be a debbie downer, just my feelings!”
As it was a festival performance on a small stage it was always going to be a bit more "grungy as you put it and was never going to be a polished choreographed set like you see on tour. The vomit thing is what passes for performance art and the girl who did it is a Vomit Painter -- yep really --- and definitely not my thing. Thought the vocals were ok but not her best by any means. She seemed to be trying to get back to her punk roots
Thought she might have put more back catalogue songs in as that usually goes down well at festivals and she proved that Jewels and Drugs should never have seen the light of day. To an extent it was a bit like Swinefest 2. It was like she was saying "look I can do whatever I like" which is fine but if you take the sponsors bucks you have to compromise a bit and I doubt Doritos will have been impressed with what they got for $2m. I sure they wanted more FameGa.
This show was basically for hardcore fans only and I doubt the ARTrave tour will be anything like this as it will have more casual / non fans there so and she will be back to the usual polished performance.
I think ARTPOP underperforming has hit her hard and she has lost her way musically. She doesn't seem to know what she wants to be doing. Pop, rock, punk, rap, jazz.??? Part of her problem is she can do them all -- except rap. But on the one hand she has to be a pop artist to keep the record company and sponsors happy. On the other I think she still longs for the days of doing whatever she wanted like she did in small clubs etc.
I personally don't think she is long for the mainstream in pop it's not where her heart is. she will probably do the tour because she is committed to it and then there will be a massive change in what she does. As a fan that doesn't bother me as long as she makes music I want to hear in any shape or form I'm happy to buy it. The day she doesn't I wont
