It's interesting to see what people's favourite singles are, great idea traceystapes!
I'm surprised at all the Judas love, I didn't think it would be that popular! Personally it's one of my favourites along with Paparazzi and Marry the Night. What would everybody's favourite non-single be? Tough to choose but I think mine would be Scheisse, closely followed by Teeth, Brown Eyes, Heavy Metal Lover and Government Hooker. |

It's interesting that quite a few people say that Gaga's standard has dropped since Bad Romance - usually proclaiming it as fact rather than opinion - but that thread doesn't really reflect that.
Granted it's only a small amount of people, and I would expect the majority of the GP to prefer TFM material to BTW, but it goes to show it isn't as unanimous as some like to think. I do wish people would remember how difficult it is to write mega-smash hit singles. Not just hugely successful ones, but songs of great quality that are destined to be pop classics. They're a career rarity, even for songwriters. Gaga had two career-defining mega smashes within a year (PF, BR) so I think people expect her to pull it out the bag every time, which is totally unrealistic. |

I don't think Gaga's standards have dropped at all (since 'BR' I mean). Don't forget the next single was the amazing 'Telephone' (Okay the song may be quite basic if you think about it, but with Beyonce and with the excellent music video, it cooked up a treat). I would 100% say the turning point was 'Alejandro' in terms of a 'divide'. Then of course the song 'Born This Way'.
However that doesn't really matter because Gaga is still so early in her career, there's time to turn that around i.e. to possibly win back those who loved her 'TFM' album but wasn't so keen on the latter stuff. Not that Gaga plans to strive to gain more fans, but there's clearly been some ripple there. I love all what she's put out but because she's my favourite singer I probably am biased

She's done it before so therefore she can do it again. That's what's great about writing your own music - you don't need to be reliant on others to give you good material. The stuff on BTW wasn't as radio friendly as TF/TFM - but I do think they made mistakes in which singles were chosen when.
I have no idea why Judas was not bigger than it was - whether it was still the hangover from the Madonna/BTW debacle or whether it was the religious content. For me, it's just a really great tune. Love that song. Let's not forget that Gaga isn't stupid either, if she wants commercial success I'm sure she'll get it - she knows what constitutes a hit song. |

I think TEOG coming out so soon after Judas is what killed it really , I mean it was never going to be massive hit which I think comes down to the religious references but the TEOG completely stole its thunder. If it hadn't been released I think Judas likely would have done a little better but it was never going to be massive hit. Which is a shame because it was the first Lady Gaga song I actually liked.

The whole promotion and single releases for BTW was a total mess. The leaks, the promo single choices (EoG released as a promo then as a single), the single choices themselves etc. I think the gaps between each singles were very disjointed as well. It just wasn't as smooth as TFM.
Hopefully she will tidy that up for ARTPOP but it looks like she MAY be following the same structure as BTW. =/ |

I really hope the pattern of BTW is not followed again. One major point: NO PROMO SINGLES!!! Gaga will be three albums in and so everybody knows about her, she will have radio backing etc promo singles are just pointless and especially putting them on itunes where they're going to compete with the proper singles. Also, music videos need to be more consistent, ready for release around the time of single released as opposed to filming it a couple of weeks before single release then taking ages to sort it. Finally, no deals, no free singles with album pre-orders (like what happened with MDNA) and no $1.99 sales on Amazon in the opening days

Releasing whilst on tour is a concept that scares me. This time round she's not in the same position she was coming off of the Monster Ball whilst releasing the lead single.

Hopefully ARTPOP will run smooth like TFM, single & video dropping at the same time with a 2 month gap between each. |

I completely agree with this. Everything just felt so rushed and disjointed. She would release like You&I just on the tail of EoG and then wait another month for the video and then just as the video dropped for You&I she would release MTN. I don't think she had a massive selection to choose from single-wise either as a majority of her songs would have to be completely butchered to be radio/tv friendly. Shame really as she had some good tracks on BTW.
Hopefully ARTPOP will run smooth like TFM, single & video dropping at the same time with a 2 month gap between each. But yeah, hopefully they have all learnt that the conditions need to be right, you cannot throw things around in a disorganised fashion and hope it's a success |

You know what I can't understand (about myself btw lol!) is I really love the BTW album BUT...if Gaga was to completely scrap planning that album live (live in concert I mean), it wouldn't bother me. What I mean is something like this:
-Return to 'The Fame' roots and perform: Just Dance Lovegame Paparazzi Poker Face Bad Romance Alejandro Boys Boys Boys and/or Paper Gangsta Judas Born This Way You & I (as that seems to be a favourite of hers) Edge Of Glory PLUS: The new ARTPOP tracks. Does that make sense? I am beginning to feel that 'The Fame' and 'ARTPOP' will be similar in concept which makes me quite excited as I loved 'The Fame/Monster'. |

So you mean that she perform only the hits from BTW and then fill out the test of the tour with TF/M and ARTPOP tracks? Personally now, I would buy into that but only because I already saw the BTWB and didn't get to see TMB so would love to see those tracks performed. Otherwise I think US fans might be a bit pissed as they want to see BTW tracks performed this time round.
Been listening to a lot of TF and TFM recently - and I have to say I still love them now! I can see that the progression was too much for some people from that to BTW but I still love all 3 albums still can't believe we haven't had an ARTPOP announcement yet! Is she waiting for Beyonce?

I'm so glad I got to see the BTW tracks being performed though. We most likely won't get those again - this is what makes me sad that Scheisse was never a single. It can't be relegated like DITD! She needs to release her best songs, or make a medley of fan favourites. In times to come when she's got a few more albums out we'll have the best of TF, TFM, BTW and ARTPOP so it will seem more condensed.
I'm guessing you didn't see the Monster Ball right? Me neither - I wish I had! |

I am very surprised we have yet to have an announcement on ARTPOP. She needs to give the fans a little something; release date, collab info or anything just to keep us excited because I know a lot of people are getting a little tired of "soon".
Personally I thought TMB tour was MUCH better than BTWB, it was a little more raw and less-rehearsed which I liked. I thought BTWB (whilst still being incredible) was a little too grand; overreaching a little. |

I think Gaga should release an album called Soon - and it should include all the promises that she's forgotten about so far :P
I wish I could have seen TMB tour - I saw the Madison Square Gardens DVD and thought it was awesome, but wish I could have been there. Still I guess BTWB ties in with BTW as an album - very produced and grand. My thing with Gaga is that she always leaves me waiting to see what she'll come up with next. I agree we really need some news now - a date for the first single, I have no idea what she's waiting for. What's the point in releasing the album title and a few tidbits which may or may not still be true now, and then make us wait ages for music. I would in a way rather have had no news rather than thinking at Xmas or NYE she would have announced something.... As you can probably see, patience isn't my forte. |

A quiet Gaga is a busy Gaga. She's been in Chicago a lot recently, which is where Taylor is but also DJWS's studio.
Scenario 1: The video is filmed and they're waiting till February to launch the single, then a second single and album in May a la BTW. Scenario 2: The video isn't filmed so April is the next available time, meaning the single isn't coming till late March at the earliest. Possible album alongside it, or maybe a second single and mid summer album release. I think they've opted for spring/summer to match the vibe of the music (dance/pop is most welcome then, particularly with harder beats), then of course to let the tour and BTW era end. She's probably waiting for Beyonce etc to do their thing and then hype-bomb come Grammys. A high profile collab in the meantime wouldn't be a bad idea. Ratchet Lady Marmalade 2.0 would be ideal. |

I hope it is filmed already - and i hope she just releases it, none of this teaser crap, just get it out there. Maybe it is all just a coincidence with Gaga, Beyonce and Azaelia both mentioning Ratchet - but hopefully not. Would love to see this being the continuation of Telephone saga. |

Pepsi want Gaga for ads...
Quote:
Paul Giraldi (PepsiCo's producer) announced in a press conference that the company is looking for Gaga to appear in some commercials...

This year our advertising strategies are intended to give young people a fresh message that has to do with their strengthening as civilized persons and a change in the society. We are looking for different characters representing the revolutionary youthful spirit for consumers to identify themselves. It is obvious that Lady Gaga is one of them, it would be very interesting to work with this wonderful woman. It is our main goal, we hope she accept our request.

Gaga;s letter to Kelly Osbourne
Quote:
Dear Kelly, While I wish you had reached out to me personally, as the head of the Born This Way foundation with my mother Cynthia we would like to respond. Everyday, through my music and public voice I choose to be positive and work towards a kinder and braver world with our community of followers. I encourage them to ignore criticism, stand up to bullies, know their own value and see that we are all the same and no one person is worth more than another. I know I’m perceived as a wild child, but in reality I am woman that deeply cares for humanity. I have empathy for you Kelly, but I feel it culturally important to note that you have chosen a less compassionate path. Your work on E! with the Fashion Police is rooted in criticism, judgment, and rating people's beauty against one another. “Appearance” is the most used reason for bullying in the world. Your show breeds negativity, and over the years has even become comedic in nature. It glorifies you and Joan Rivers pointing in the camera, laughing, and making jokes about artists and celebrities as if we are zoo animals. What about your body revolution? It used to make me truly sad when I would hear people talk about your weight when you were younger, as I was bullied too. To see you blossoming into a beautiful slender woman who makes fun of others for a living is astounding. Why not help others? Why not defend others who are bullied for their image and share your story? I am pointing this out not to take a crack at your character, as we’ve met before and you’re lovely. However, I urge you to take responsibility and accountability for the example that you are setting for young people. They look up to you because you are famous, and if you treat others that way on TV, many adolescents at home on twitter assume your actions are acceptable: well if she does it, why can’t I? I cannot control my fans, and I discourage them from any negativity and violence, because that is wrong and hurtful -- and I do feel baldy that your feelings were hurt. However, we can all do our part in the media to set a standard of respect, compassion, and love. I wish for you to be treated with the kindness and respect that everyone deserves. While some of my fans have learning to do, most of them share the same values as I, and it's what bonds us together. And that bond is strong. Sincerely Gaga and Cynthia www.bornthiswayfoundation.org Tell 'em how you feel girl! |

I'm glad she addressed it tbh. It's getting really dull having people drag Gaga for what SOME of her fans do on Twitter.
It gripes me when they describe the cyber harassment some fans inflict as "bullying". It's not. Internet trolls and immature morons hurling anonymous abuse at celebrities is not "bullying". It undermines genuine bullying people experience. Whilst it's not nice at all, you can quite easily not read your @mentions. Plus it's hilarious that people act like it's oh so terrible that fans said all these horrible things to Kelly as if Gaga herself doesn't get the same treatment. Nobody cares about that, do they? Alas. This letter won't change anything. The same folk will continue using it against her. |
