RIP Donna.

'Love to Love You Baby' and 'No More Tears' were iconic.

So sad to hear

I've got great memories of sitting up till the early hours watching Smash Hits' Classics. 'This Time I Know It's For Real' was on nearly every night and it ended up as one of my many guilty pleasures!

So sad to hear this.

She was the sound of my youth growing up.

It is the suddenness of it that is hard to take. I never even knew she was ill. She wanted it kept quiet.

God bless you Donna, sleep peacefully in Disco Heaven.

Very sad indeed. I remember when I first heard "I Feel Love" in the 1980s and being blown away by it. And then there's "State Of Independence", the list goes on she did so many great songs.

RIP

My goodness what a terrible piece of news. Another talented, gifted, inspirational and genuinely brilliant top artist has been cruelly taken from us. Her legacy of music though is such a huge gift to us all, she will never be forgotten. I Feel Love, as another poster rightly said, is arguably the BEST pop tune ever written. I really don't know what else to say. The music world will be somewhat duller now forever. She was one of my favourite artists. RIP Donna and God bless.

Didn't even know she was ill

Bless her. Rest in peace Donna and hopefully rock it out with Whitney, Amy, Etta and other amazing people who have left us.

People have contributed vast amounts of money, in the millions, to cancer research over the years and still people die of it. What has the money been spent on? It's terrible really that we spend so much time and devotion helping the poor in Africa (who will always be poor), yet spend little time considering what actually affects us all, here in the West. I know that I'm being controversial but when money is pumped into a project I expect to see results yet we never ever do. Not even in Africa. There, I've got it off my chest now. I am just genuinely saddened by this news.

This is very sad news.

I love most of her music but have a real thing for some of her older songs like "Down, Deep Inside" and "Love's Unkind". I also really LOVE "Heaven Knows". I think her last CD Crayons was very good and I hope that her out of print CD's are re-released so that her music can live on. She was a true star and deserves to be called a legend.

For those of us that remember the summer of 77 , & i aint talking jubliees btw, we danced to Ifeel love on 247 radio 1`, and also that year or could have been a bit later she did the theme to The deep which starred a very sexy jacquline bissett ,

ohhh down deep inside me

Terribly sad news. A true musical icon. One of my favourites is from her last album, Crayons, a track called 'Science of Love'

Such sad news

What sad news, dying at an age where there is so much more life left, and the opportunities that come with that, in those of us who are lucky enough to have a clean bill of health

I had no idea Donna was ill - indeed last I was aware of, which was relatively recently, she was still recording. Another star (somehow the word 'celebrity' would be incongruous, in light of the point I'm about to make) who thankfully didn't feel it necessary to commercialise their illness.

Can't quite take ts very sad news in. Many many times during the seventies I danced to her music in the discos.
Lovely singer. My thoughts go out to her family.
Gone but never forgotten. RIP Donna xxx

Although I was not the greatest fan of disco I always liked most of Donna's singles, particularly my 2 favourites - Love To Love You Baby, and the jazzy/gospel State Of Independence, arguably her best ever recording.RIP Donna.

Forget disco... It is up there with some of the best tunes of all times.

Beyonce and the like owe a lot to this woman.

Sad sad news. I've been a fan forever..she really is the true original disco and dance vocalist. In an age of bandwagon jumping and pop tarts with paper thin vocals, she is the absolute undisputed pioneer and legend of proper heartfelt dance music.

Really sad, she was the music of my youth in the 70s when disco really was king of the charts.

Am sad about this, even though the only songs I was truly familiar with were I Feel Love and Dinner With Gershwin. I do have a copy of her Endless Summer greatest hits album though so I think I'll put it on later. I've been meaning to listen to it for ages as I do like disco in moderation.
