I started learning eight or so years ago.

Ya, it was. I think I may have been the last LC year that used it before it was scrapped and relaunched again. I think it had been going since the 60's or something!

That's a pity your local schools weren't great but good that your parents thought outside the box with regards to your education. Some of my primary education was in a really bad local rural school in Ireland. It was completely substandard but luckily my parents kept on top of things and worked on educational things with me at home.

School in the US was different. I went to quite a liberal co-ed school that focuses on children's creativity and children using their own minds in learning. It was quite a contrast to my all-girls secondary education in Ireland and rote learning for the LC. I had great experiences in both to be honest. Despite the rote learning, I think the Irish secondary education is (or at least was when I went to school) great.

So Florence's spectrum all be it the calvin harris remix number 1 on itunes rather surprised anyone ele think it can make it.

And my school's were great i was lucky though i live in distance of one of the best state schools in Swansea and had a nice surburban primary with a small population so its all location and luck at times too.

I've been trying to watch something on ITVPlayer for the last hour and a half. Can't escape the ad breaks and if you try to skip them the ads start from the beginning again (there are 5 adverts every 15 mins or so). I'm waiting for the bit that I've seen to finish so I can move on to the bits I haven't seen.

This is why I very rarely use ITV Player. Never have this trouble with BBC iPlayer.

4OD has similar problems now and again but for the most part works pretty well i agree with what you say about ITVplayer i have the app for my Ipod and had to chnage my location to London to get ITV 1 programmes as it is unavailable in my region apparently Wales is in the back end of nowhere now

Hmmm I honestly don't know whether I like the original version of Spectrum or the Calvin Harris remix?

I much prefer the original i like the slightly disco feel and thats why the remix work it kind of utalises that as spectrum has a slightly dance feel but with a baroque pop backround which CH has missed like Rabbit Heart Jamie T remix and Shake It Up Weekend Mix keep the original feel and sentiment but add something new CH remix is a bit generic but i like though am liking CH less as i hate to say it he is selling put and losing his originality its a completely different guy to the guy who created Acceptable in the 80's etc.

I did my Leaving in 2008 and the poetry book we had was called New Explorations. That's good your parents helped you at home. I think kids need that kind of encouragement and support. I find the Irish education system to be much better than the UK system. I felt I did better in an Irish school than I would've done in a British one. I went to an all-girls school as well. I didn't want to go to a mixed one. Are there any all-girls state schools in the UK or are they all private?

I liked his work with Rihanna because it was different but his work with Cheryl and now Flo, well it all sounds recycled and samey.

I'm not a huge fan of the original or of the Calvin Harris remix. Maybe it'll grow on me but it doesn't really do anything for me. I think she's had stronger songs that missed out on number one.

I found that an all-girls school worked well for me as well. A lot of educational research has shown that girls and boys have different learning methods and that they can perform better academically in single-sex schools. Obviously, you have the social argument that would say co-ed is better for social development. I think it suited me though because my school was quite academically driven. I think over 60% of my class achieved 500 points or more or something crazy. (Not that the points race is the be all and end all of education).

I don't think there are that many public single-sex schools in the US but as far as I'm aware they are becoming more popular due to the research mentioned above.

I agree totally the vast majority of her singles have deserved top ten if not top 5 placings but as with so many greats she is an albums artist and creates albums of songs not singles so her singles never fare well.

And LM i enjoyed his work on X with KM too thats when he is at his best creating interesting genre defining electro/dance not generic chart fodder sans Guetta

It saddens me a non-dance artist suddenly interests people when a well known dance producer producers her recent single. I bet if that remix had never ever been done, the singles wouldn't have done well. IMO, the songs stands well by it's self. Ridiculous. It pisses me off. Ok rant over

I agree completely like it took a cover to get Lungs to number but Florence's overall body of work will stand up better than this Remix.

It's pretty sad alright but if it turns more people onto Florence in the long run then it's a good thing I think. Hav_Mor, I agree that her body of work will be what's remembered. With regards to Lungs, I love the album but I cannot stand her cover of You've Got The Love. It completely grates on me.

I just se it as a reflection of a genration of people out of touch with music the people who have bought this remix will be the ones most likely to ridicule and misunbderstand flo as she is Alternative but chuck in Calvina nd suddenly she is amazing but her albums stand as a strong testament ot her talent so in the long run its insignificant.

Yeah of course at least her full body of work will stand against time. I remember loving You got the love when i heard it before she became famous. Then it made the album and i still liked it. But then it got played on a Gavin & Stacey episode and she did that awful mash up with Dizzee and it exploded and became so overplayed.

It was odd though it came out at a time when Dog Days was exploding as well and she started getting noticed interntaionally so it was balanced out with the success of an original song as well as a cover/mash up so she crossed over too so on the one hand whilst it is disheartning that its a spectrum remix doing the rounds in the long run it may do what YGTL did and help her crossover and shift moie albums as Ceremonials seemingle peaked and dropped out but is climbing back.

Yeah Ceremonials hasn't sold for the long run like Lungs but then after a first successful album, it was only normal too. But Ceremonials hasn't been a flop and is very much success. Florence isn't an artist to sell millions of albums and singles. I think a few albums time, she will be like how Kate Bush and Tori Amos have gone to be. Huge fan bases. Sold out tour. But albums sell lower and lower with each release. Not that it is a bad thing.

Whilst not as big as Lungs it has continued her success internationally and chart wise peaked higher in most countries even though Lungs overall sold more Ceremonials has solidified her success and giving her a bigger fanbase so as you say in a few albums time she will be s steady seller with a large fanbase.

Afternoon all.

What is everyone's favourite song at the moment? That one song you simply cannot stop listening to?

Mine is Slow Dancing in a Burning Room - John Mayer. Such a beautiful song
