Doesn't surprise me but I wonder how many artists have actually turned down this sort of offer?

Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis has revealed that he wanted Adele to headline next summer's festival, but that the singer said no.

The festival has not taken place this summer as it took its customary year off once in every five, but the organiser has said that he is gearing up for 2013 and wanted Adele to be one of the Pyramid Stage's headliners.

Speaking to the Metro, Eavis said that even though he wanted to book Adele, he thought the singer would find the experience "too daunting" and would not feel comfortable playing an event of Glastonbury's scale.

He said: "She knows that we want her anyway, but she doesn't want to do a thing our size. Going on the Pyramid Stage is a bit daunting in front of 80,000 people, it's a bit much really."

Eavis added that Adele was a frequent guest at the festival and was welcome any time, saying: "She comes every year usually, and has her own little party."

Sorry, should have said - she's always said she couldn't do festivals due to the size of the crowd, freaks her out. Although she did do one of the small stages a few years ago.

She would never work on a huge stage anyway, she's a more intimate gig person. Glastonbury is all about putting on a proper show.

I agree, although if she had more Rolling in the Deep-esque songs I think it could. I was dying for Prince to do it after the rumours last year, but I'm not so sure he would. What about Madonna?

It won't happen, Prince's pay demands are too high, hence Hop farm got him last year.

I think anyone can work a stage when there is a lot of demand from the public. People know who Adele is, they obviously don't expect any choreography or theatrics, they just want to hear her sing. I don't know why she turned the offer down, it would be great for her imo

I'd love Madonna to headline Glasto. It would be amazing
