Jenna's ad was more eye catching
I thought Jenna's ad would have far greater appeal with the general public then Tom's, if both were put forward for commercial tv .
That group who were appraising both ads were a bit snooty and not representitive of people looking to buy wine in the supermarket. Then again I know nothing about British wine. Is it supposed to be at the dearer end of the wine market ? |

I agree with LS on this one. Jenna's ad was like a Carry On film, I expected Barbara Windsow to be sitting on the thrown.
Not the image you want for a higher cost product. Pity though, I liked Jenna. |

I don't think the ad was for commercial tv though - it was just part of the website. If this were a bog-standard advertising task then she might have been closer, but it was a promotional video, that jarred horribly with the tone of the rest of the site. Additionally (cardinal sin), it was on autoplay as soon as you opened the website, whereas the other one had to be clicked to start up.

I just love the tagline "What she needs is a sparkling English wine". It sounds like it was made in the ninteen-eighties!

As much as I liked Jenna, her advert was truly terrible. How she (or Stephen) thought it was a good idea is beyond me!

Jenna and Stephen's ad started with the bride taking a mouthful of a sparkling wine and spitting it out going "Ew!"
At this point I would be clicking away from the website thinking "well if your wine is that awful I'm not buying any!" |

It was "oozing luxury with every pour". I'm not sure if "pour/pore" was supposed to be a pun or if it was just an unhappy accident. If the former, it makes "see their/they're light" look like quality wordplay.

Jenna's ad was certainly more eye-catching, in the same way that a car crash is eye-catching.

There's a difference between eye-catching and appropriate. If her ad had consisted of a row of erect penises it'd have been eye-catching. Not entirely appropriate for the market, though.

Someone inform Lord Sugar that Kenneth Williams' catchphrase in the Carry On films was 'OOHH MATRON !'..
..not 'OOHH Maitre D' !'

I hate it when people pronounce luxury with a g in it, like lugzhury (similar to people who say eggzit rather than exit) lo and behold... of course stephen pronounces it the annoying way. didn't they say something about him coming up with great little things in reference to his oozing luxury bit? ew to oozing and ew to stephen. |

Really puts Vincent's excitement over 'For every day, there's Everydog' into perspective. Jim was pretty awful at taglines but next to Stephen, he was a Jedi master.

It was Adam's ad for Tom's team. Neither was good but Jenna's was terrible.

Many aspects of Jenna's team's campaign were good eg Gabrielle's rose design and Ricky's pitch and they also followed the brief more accurately than than Tom's team. However the video was so appallingly dreadful, lacking even the slightest connection with quality, elegance and class that it overrode any of the better parts of the campaign.
After seeing that video and some of the by-lines no one in their right mind would be able to trust Jenna's team with ensuring that their product would be portrayed appropriately and sadly Jenna was fired because of this instead of Stephen, who was, IMO, more to blame |

I can't vote in the poll because I didn't like either video. They were both bad, but Jenna's was excruciatingly bad. The tacky strapline was Stephen's but concept and direction of the ad was clearly Jenna's. All she could think about was weddings and her own dream version (including a throne). Tom's ad was bland, dull and very dated. It reminded me of the kind of ads you used to see in the cinema back in the 70s.

The brief as I understood it was to create a VIRAL video to raise awareness. I actually thought that Jenna's advert was brilliant. It was naff, cheesy and humerous but you were laughing at the actors/scenario and not the product. I would probably send it onto my friends as it was bad and would give them a chuckle, therefore achieving the aim! No way at all I would bother even watching till the end of Tom's bore-fest video. How was Jenna supposed to know that the English Sparkling Wine board were a bunch of stuck up pretentious snobs. They put me off buying ESW as I don't want to line their pockets. It always annoys me when LAS fires people for not being able to direct video/photography shoots. 99% of successful business's employ ad agencies for a reason. Far more important qualities he should be looking for - like not being a skiever!!
Ricky's team should have won for Gabrielle's beautiful rose/glass emblem alone as well as the fact that Adam and Tom did no work and just spent an entire day getting trolleyed. |

Tom's was much better. I had to hide my face when the panel was watching Jenna's, it was so cringey.

I assumed the English Sparkling Wine Board would be a group of producers or their representatives. Why would they necessarily be posh? They are essentially just farmers/manufactorers? Even if you have to be loaded to get into opening a vineyard, just because you are rich doesn't mean you have to be a snob with a sense of humour failure.
Maybe that's a naive view, but then I'm guessing Jenna who seemed like a down to earth northern lass would have thought along those lines too! |
