Olympic flame watching thread

An Olympic flame maybe.

But it is just a flame. That's it. What people are getting all excited about. Flocking the streets, being so merry about. A flame?

Hmm. If ever there was a case of the Emperor's New Clothes, it's this...

It's like something out of a kiddies fairy tale book.

I'm sat thinking the same thing. David Beckham grates on me, he wants to be involved with England now it's the Olympics but he sodded off to LA ages ago!

Yeah, and that's another thing. What the heck has David Beckham got to do with the Olympics? Nothing. He's so yesterday's news.

Personally I think Sir Steve Redgrave should have been at the helm. If you accept the flame concept, that is.

Wrong. He was very involved with the bidding process. The guy has every right to be involved with this.

I wonder if you used both hands and all your fingers, and concentrated really hard, you could count the number of people that are noticeably filled with more hope, and I mean have significantly higher levels of hope than they did before witnessing it.

Well I have to say I am rather more hopeful after seeing it. Because this means its not too long til it starts therefore the end will come as well. And I am very much looking forward to it all being over

The story comes from Greek mythology where the titan Prometheus stole fire from Zeus and gave it to mankind to essentially free and make them stronger. For his troubles he was a chained to a rock and had his liver pecked out every day by birds before growing back at night. This is why they had a flame in the ancient Olympics and therefore still do today.

And if people want to go and see it being run around the country no issue to me. Hope they have a nice day out.

No matter how much the damned Olympics are thrust down our throats at every opportunity and wherever possible, I remain totally underwhelmed by every aspect of it.

Every now and then someone tries to step in to the road to get on TV and the lead Goons nearly have a panic attack

Got to be hard work constantly looking out for the public like that!

It's supposed to end up outside the west front of the cathedral at Exeter tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm not even in the country or I might've made the effort to go and see it.

This was when religions were inventive and interesting, probably around the same era we were telling tales of Thor, Freya, and Valhalla. It was rather sad they were all replaced with that "follow all these rules or you burn in hell, and be ashamed to be human" monotheistic dictatorial nonsense.

I know
What's with all the ambling along?

I get that one or two of the torchbearers are old/infirm but why aren't any of the others jogging along with any vague fitness?
