I'm sort of vaguely looking forward to it. But, with Euro 2012 lined up before it, it's difficult to get too excited. Maybe once Euro 2012 is out of the way, I'll be more interested in it...

we weren't crap in beijing, we came 4th place on the medals tables out of 80 competing nations. why are you running GB down? is it seen as fashionable to do so or something?

I love the Olympics, have booked the two weeks off work just so I can watch it all. Have tickets to the Athletics and Beach Volleyball.

However, I can not stand this torch relay. I honestly could not care less about it!

I thik there were more than 80 competing countries in the Beijing Olympics. You may be referring to the amount of countries that won a medal, be it gold, silver, or bronze.

My first batch of 11 tickets arrived yesterday so yes, definitely looking forward to it.

Granted, most of them are for football but will be heading to basketball, handball and volleyball as well.

Would have liked to have got the hockey tickets I applied for but c'est la vie.

Shan't be giving the Torch route or either the Opening or Closing ceremonies even a second's thought though as all of these are pointless exercises IMHO.

But the actual sport, very much so.

The money spent on filling in potholes could be spent on children in poverty. The money spent cutting the grass of our parks could be spent on children in poverty. Point is, the world doesn't really work like that. It's a daft argument for two reasons... firstly, it can be used to the nth degree; should we not spend a single penny on anything until child poverty is irradicated? Prioritising every penny spent in such a way just isn't very real-world. Secondly, what's happening with our Olympics is geared towards children; locally, nationally and internationally.
Good for you not caring about the Jubilee. I find that those who love to be so outspoken about how much they "hate" these kind of celebratory events that cause them absolutely no harm or trouble (apart from the old "I'm sick of hearing about it" line you're life must be so awful having to hear the word "Jubilee" on the radio, poor you etc.) take some sort of deluded, weird pride in being cynical, it's quite sad really.

Well sod the miserable gits, I am going to fully enjoy the Olympics!
Got 2 weeks off so going to watch loads of it and will probably have some Olympic BBQ's with friends round.
Tried to get tickets but failed, never mind, the TV coverage should be awesome.

Most Definitely No. My heart sank when it was announced London had got it. Coe and all the luvvies being excited. This country being landed with a millstone of debt just like all the host countries before it, and in a time of unheard of recession. The original costing has tripled. The cock up with the tickets. The overall mind numbing boredom of the whole thing. Can't stand the Olympics regardless of where they are held.

....except the hosts which made a profit?

Surely you didn't feel exactly the way you describe above? I mean, the recession was nowhere near biting when the games were awarded to London.
