Remove a GMail account ?
Remove a GMail account ?
..I've just brought my Dad (totally pc illiterate) a Zenithink ZT 280 C91 10 inch tablet as a prezzy (Android 4 - ICS) . I've set it up at my house using my wi-fi and gmail account and put all his favourites sites on the front screen for easy access. Now - I want to go over to his house and set up his wi-fi (no probs) BUT how do I completely eliminate my gmail account from the pad and set it up as a new user for his gmail account ? There seems to be no way of erasing my account completely - only switching it on/off but not removing it. I don't want to do a reset and start from scratch all over again.... Surely there must be a way - otherwise at the moment it will log on as me and he'll get my email... |

I was told that the only way to remove the first google account put on the tablet is to do a factory reset
![]() I think there is another way but it involves rooting the tablet, something i wasnt prepared to do personally as I'm not that confident with things like that. |

What about flash or adding memory?
![]() ![]() It does seem like an odd design decision by Google...surely it should be easier than a factory reset. |

But then an Android tablet can do flash and can use the cloud as well as have more local storage space...so it must be better than you iPad

Because it's Android your Google Play account is linked to your Gmail address. If it was simple to just change the Gmail address, you could set up a tablet with a bunch of paid apps, then swap emails and go about your business. I agree it's irritating (I ended up buying a couple of lemons (um, including a Zenithink ZT-282 (the ZT-280 so-called upgrade)) while searching for the perfect, budget Android 10" tablet and had to pass them on - you end up demonstrating what it can do then saying, but off course once I remove my account we're going to have to re-install a lot of that) but necessary.
With an iPad email is separate and you can install a bunch of apps from your own account and pass the tablet on and in general your account is safe because purchases are password protected. AFAIK Google Play has no secondary password protection once you're logged in to your account - which is madness. I have an iPad and a few Android tablets and the iPad is hard to beat when it comes to delivering a well thought out service. Android will get there eventually. |

What's the best Android tablet in your opinion ? (I personally have a Toshiba Thrive and that's good..but still not 'perfect'....) |

My wife gave her tablet to our daughter. IIRC we added my daughter's Google account then removed my wife's - no problem.
That was on a Sony S1. Did a similar thing on an Asus Transformer (which is a better tablet IMO) |

A good thing about Android is that you add multiple accounts and use them to get apps from the Play Store and then remove that account and leave the apps behind. OP – the tablet you have is running ICS so this link may work for you: http://www.themobiforest.com/2011/10...hout_7738.html I think the thing to remember is that when you set up a device the initial log in should be done with the primary account – but of course hindsight is a wonderful thing. I hope your dad likes his tablet. |
