I don't think he deserved to win. Rebecca should have won. But she's doing alright for herself anyway.

Totally agree, I always thought Cardle was overrated. Loved his original audition but he played on my nerves after that.

Rebecca was always my favourite, and I'm delighted she's been so successful.

He needed the exposure of X Factor now he can concentrate on making his type of music I suppose.

Laughed at a poster's reference to Matt fans being deluded. The only deluded fans I have observed are the one's running with their hard earned cash, after being lead like sheep by the Marketing Shepherd, to pay for rubbish like SC's "distinctly average" offerings from 1D and Olly Murrs.
Lol!!! It was Columbia records that dropped him.

Must admit I feel kinda sorry for Matt in away, Hardly anyone is even talking about him being dropped unlike the past winners it's almost like he was forgotten even faster than they were.

But Joe's not a pop / pop-rock artist any more is he.He's aimed at the granny / show tunes market now (of course there's a market for that - Susan Boyle is proof of how successful that area can get)

Find her lacking in personality / creativity / voice a bit drony / robotic as well.A soul singer without any real soul in her voice / mimicking past soul singers.Guess we hear her differently though.

Why would anybody particuarly? He's no longer with Syco and doing something completely different now. People compare the winners and what they do as the 'x factor winner' - Joe was the biggest flop of them all in regards to record sales. He had to go on another reality show to kick start his career again...and its great thats worked out but under his XF contract he did terribly.

Pop/rock singer Cardle was signed to Syco Music/Columbia Records in a joint record deal. By all accounts, he is still signed to Syco, which is co-owned by "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell and Sony Music.
I don't know how reliable they are though.

Katy Perry had similar reasons for parting with Columbia (difference of where record company and artist wanted to go) and left for an independent. Hope it all works out well for Matt Cardle and interested to see what happens next.

Since I don't particularly care for her music, I don't follow Katy Perry, but was she still a relative unknown when she parted ways with Columbia, and was it a contract non-renewal (non-exercise of option) as is the case with Matt?

Similarly Kelly Clarkson's first single "A Moment Like This" was also an original co-written byJörgen Elofsson and John Reid, which was rehashed by Leona when she won.

I will agree that an innordinate amount of Westlife covers have been recorded, so not much originality there.

I loved the first Pop Idol. Will Young has the sort of voice I love, so while i didn't buy his first PI Album, I've bought 3 since which I love.

Ruben Studdard recorded Flying Without Wings, didn't he? Whatever became of him? Is he still performing?
yes, but everyone remembers `evergreen` being the stand out track on that double a side. ruben is still recording and released an album earlier this year. it didn't do very well though peaking at #73 in the us.

Actually as I understand it, he was on the point of signing for Decca when PSTOS came up (having said he would do it back in the February) so that is why the classical stuff was included in his album. So it wasn't the opera show which as such - he was already in talks with Decca!

In theory he could still be signed to Syco but I highly doubt it. The only way it could happen is if another Sony label were going to handle his second album (or if Syco Music wanted to but I doubt it!). As that doesn't seem to be happening, I'm guessing he is out of Syco/Columbia and Sony altogether.

According to her biography, this is the quoted story:

"Trying her luck, Perry signed to Columbia Records in 2004. However, the label was not amenable with her vision, not putting her in the "driver's seat". Instead, one of Columbia's ideas was to pair Perry with the record production team The Matrix, who was working on an album, to serve as its female vocalist. Although the album was later shelved, she caught the attention of the music press: Her burgeoning music career led to her being named "The Next Big Thing" in October 2004 by Blender magazine. With no album project ongoing, Perry began recording her own. Eighty percent completed, however, Columbia decided not to finish it and dropped her off the label.

While waiting to find another label, she worked in an independent A&R company called Taxi Music. In 2006, Perry is featured in the tail-end of the video to P.O.D.'s single "Goodbye for Now". She made a cameo appearance on Carbon Leaf's video, "Learn to Fly", and on Gym Class Heroes' video, "Cupid's Chokehold", playing the eventual love interest of lead singer Travis McCoy. Her songs eventually captured the attention of Virgin Records CEO Jason Flom, then head of Capitol Music Group, who signed her to Capitol Music in early 2007.2

So possibly the same as Matt and hopefully as one door closes another door opens and I wish him well.

Not as hard as I laughed at his fans claiming he is one of Columbia's "highest earning" artists.

Should have, could have, would have. These people didn't win and there is no point in going on about it.

That year Rebecca and Matt were my two favourites. In fact, only decent two acts. Matt really pushed the boat out and Rebecca didn't on the show imo.

Very happy to see Rebecca doing well. Not surprised at all as her voice and presence is great.

Matt is a talented musician. I would be happy to see him get away from Syco. Wonder what comes up next for him. It certainly isn't the end of the world to change labels or even be dropped. Wasn't Lady Gaga dropped? If so, hasn't done her any harm.
