I feel absolutely gutted atm as I had to make the decision to have my little cat Lucy put to sleep on Thursday evening - she hadn't shown any signs of pain or discomfort at all, although she was starting to look older than the 13 we thought she was, and the night before last was playing with the kittens and trying to steal food off my plate, then Thursday night she was very unsteady on her feet, although still doing the rounds at tea time to see if anyone had left food, when all of a sudden she had a seizure/stroke that lasted a few minutes and collapsed on the floor breathing heavily, so I called a vet out.
His opinion was that she was a very poorly little girl and he thought it might be a thyroid problem, although it would need blood tests etc to confirm it but he didn't think she was strong enough to take the tests or the distress of going to the surgery and after examining her he also thought she might have a tumour on her kidneys as he could feel nodes and a lump, and in his opinion it would be best to euthanise her so she didn't suffer. She let the vet examine her and never fought against it at all which was totally against her nature as she normally shouted and hid from people she didn't know, but was too weak.
It was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make
but I owed that little girl a lot and no way would I want her to suffer, as she's been by my side and was for a few years my only company since mum died and I'm going to miss her terribly, but I think I've done the right thing even though I'm feeling guilty over it.
Good night Lucy and sleep well, I'm going to miss you.
