I may not of wordered the title right but I have never realised how many albums have been done where the artist pretty much become a character throughout the album

Madonna was Dita for her Erotica album
Breathless for her I'm Breathless album
Veronica for Ray of light
Marina has become Electra heart for her recent album
Lizzy Grant becomes Lana Del rey
Beyonce became Sasha fierce for her third album
Nicki Minaj is Roman for her Roman reloaded album

Are there any more albums like this and what do you think of this?

Personally i am fascinated by it all and thinks it makes a particular artists's era interesting.

Chris Gaines - really Garth Brooks in a rock guise? Brooks once hosted SNL as himself with the musical guest being Chris Gaines. he never let on they were the same person

One of the very few alter ego I've actually fallen for is Lana.

David Bowie is the big one Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, Thin White Duke he fanously killed of ziggy at the hammersmith so take a peak at him if your liking alter ego's.

Wasn't his Chris Gaines project completely derided by critics and he was turned into a bit of a joke in the press? Funny thing is although I never listened to the album, I remember liking the lead single from it more than any Garth Brooks' song. I don't know if I'd still hold that opinion now as I can't really remember the song and I was quite young at the time.

I think the title should say 'Alter Egos'.
One of the best alter egos has to be Ziggy ( David Bowie) from The Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars, fantastic album.

Tori Amos - Scarlet's Walk

She takes on the alter-ego of Scarlet as she travels across post-9/11 America. Very good album

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Eminem's albums yet (Slim Shady, etc.).

I guess it's good for artists, in the sense that if they say anything that offends people on their albums they can just say "Oh, I didn't say that, it was just my alter-ego talking".

Princess Superstar parodied herself with an alter-ego throughout her amazing 2005 album My Machine, a criminally ignored masterpiece with real meaning and artistry.

She plays a version of herself that travels forward in time to a time when her music will be appreciated, and makes 10,000 clones of herself to illuminate the competition. The clones soon turn on her and kill her, causing a "Great Brain Revolution" that results in people not needing things like music, drugs, video games and tv. It's all about appreciating your mind I guess, it's amazing.

It's also the best example of a concept-album i've ever come across. It's like watching a musical blindfolded.

I think I remember an interview where Beyonce said she no longer needed Sasha Fierce. To be honest I get he impression she gringes looking back at her. It was a very cring-ey alter ego.

The album didn't need Sasha in my opinion. I'm quite sure Beyonce said she was embarassed by the whole Sasha idea at one point.

Didn't Christina try to be known as "Baby Jane" at one point

and then also adopted a promiscuous hooker persona when she was known as Xtina, but i think that one was more life imitating art
