Its the way we have been brought up to find certain things acceptable and certain things not acceptable. There are certain religious people who think that dogs are unclean and should not be kept as pets.

If we worshipped a cow god, we would be appalled that people are wearing leather shoes and eating beef burgers.

When you were talking about dancing bears I thought you were referring to the 'Showbears'.

I can see that, but is the way we're brought up applicable here - comparing a dancing bear with an intelligent family pet learning tricks?

Cruelty is wrong, whatever your culture, but it's patently not the case with Ashleigh/Pudsey.

I don't think you need to feel angry about this.
In other countries yes cruel methods to make animals dance sometimes appear to be deployed.

But rest assured that here in the UK everything is a lot more humane.
In the UK the dog isn't actually forced to dance. What actually happens is that when the dog is trained its feet are constantly raising up and down from the ground because the floor is hot. A metal floor is heated to a high enough temperature where the dog has to keep raising its feet off the ground because it's too hot for them.
Then when it comes to the stage performance in front of people the trainer just tricks the dog into thinking that the floor is going to get hot. So it's quite easy to replicate the same actions by using this Pavlovian technique.

So you see, the dog isn't actually being forced to dance at all because it isn't actually dancing, it's just an illusion that makes it look as though it's dancing.
The dog has no concept of what dancing is. But it sure knows that it has to keep moving its feet to stop them from getting burnt.

I hope that gives you some peace of mind.

Until the day they find a dog that can do the things Brian Griffin can do, I have zero interest in dog acts.

b) training of bears is usually known for cruelty and torture
c) the dog was getting extra bonus treats for doing what he did, he still got fed
