I live in a esate of flat blocks - which i have my own door and side window - which i leave open for my almost 2 year old Tigger, as during time like this, he loves going outside, but the problem is, other neighbours in the area, who leave thier window open, dont like him coming in, and neighbour (1) doesnt care about him popping in and eating the other cats food (well she havent been complaining to me about it!), but one do, and always have a go at me, yet neighbour (2) has a cat and leaves window open for her cat, and always complain when he goes in and eats her food!

The problem stemed before i had him, he used to go around neighbours and me due to a neighbour who now left the area, when he was a kitten they used to kick him out in the winter so of course he looking for shelter and food! I now have had him for a year, i had him the day he was done!

I have a problem of these neighbours actually picking him up and putting him through the side window and shuting the window so he cant get back out!

just to let you all know i do give him food before he goes out yet he goes and eats more from other neighbours cat food.

i have spoken to local housing ass about this, but they say it not thier problem.

wondering if there is any law or such that would help me?

Any advice please for either me, neighbours or the cat - thanks!

I don't really know what kind of law you are hoping exists?

From my point of view, the neighbours aren't in the wrong, if I was in those flats & had my window open, I would not be happy to have a cat coming in each time , especially if it was eating my cats food. So I can completely understand why your neighbours are getting annoyed at this.

Regarding them shutting the cat in - do u mean they pick it up & put it back into your flat & shut the window?

To be honest, if I were you, I would keep the cat in. Its not fair to expect your neighbours to keep their windows shut all the time just to keep your cat out.

I say all this as a cat owner & cat lover.

Living in flats myself and we see this happening on the ground floor here quite a bit. I always think if we allowed our dogs to wander like these cats do we would be in trouble and feel really sorry for the people it affects. If your cat enters other peoples homes then keep it in don't allow it out. It is very unfair on the other tenants.

the problem is these other neighbours allow access so thier cats can come outside and the neighbour who has a go at me, her cat keep trying to go in mine but i dont complain about the cat! yet they have a cheek to complain about mine! i cant keep him in all the time - when he was ill he was inside for three weeks and he didnt like it he wanted to go out! if it is raining i do keep him in cos ov i dont want him to be extremely wet.

yes they are phyically picking my cat up and shutting the window once they pushed him back inside.

this is what i dont get, they allow thier cats to go out yet they always dont want him outside - slightly bit unfair isnt it?!

They have every right to allow their cat to come and go through their window if it goes into other peoples flats then it's up to them to complain, none of your business really but what is your business is your cat causing a nuisance and you need to stop it.

OP, if anyone is infringing a law (although what a strange law it would be) it is you.

You are responsible for your cat and keeping it away from intruding on others private property.

You need to be friendly, talk to neighbours and try coming to a agreement. Offer to pay for any food taken by your cat as a friendly gesture. Point out that your cat's food is also being eaten, but try to understand their point of view. Don't threaten the law- its not friendly and you don't have a leg to stand on.

Your neighbour could teach your cat to keep out with a water pistol- as recommended by the RSPCA. You could offer to buy her one.
