John Mayer - Born and Raised
Has anyone bought the new album yet? I have, and absolutely love it. It's at number one in itunes and will probably have good first week sales, surprising since his last albums didn't fare well here and he isn't very popular. Anyone know why the sudden increase in popularity?
Anyway, I'm really liking the folky softer country songs. Something like Olivia, Born and Raised, Queen of California, Age of Worry and Speak for me are my favourites. Doesn't quite top his live album imo, but far better than Battle Studies. |

Yup, I've got it. I really like American Country music so like his new subtle direction into that genre of music.
I love Walt's Submarine Test, Born and Raised is great, Queen of California and Love is a Verb. |

It's a really beautiful album and in my opinion a return to form. The album really takes you on a journey.
It is a departure away from the more blues/blue eyed soul sound and towards 60's-70's folk rock, so it may not please those expecting a lot of guitar solos. Saying that, musically, there are so many different layers to it that I'm still discovering with each listen even though I had the opportunity to hear the album early and have had it since last week. The songwriting is very honest and earnest too. Although Continuum is still my favourite album of his, this is definitely his most cohesive album and is up there with Continuum. My favourite track is the title track. Those Crosby and Nash harmonies are fantastic. |

I wasn't going to bother but a Country album being raved about on DS has to be worth checking out!

![]() ![]() I think while there's definitely a country influence, it's more influenced by that mellow Laurel Canyon sound of Crosby, Stills and Nash, Neil Young, The Allman Brothers as well as a little of The Band, George Harrison and early solo Eric Clapton thrown in but of course sounding like it's an album released in 2012. I would recommend checking it out though. |

Pretty sure they regularly give Gaga and Kyle five stars so I wouldn't get too hep up about that review
