Hearing about Tulisa's PA getting into a bit of a brawl this week I thought i'd share my views on the bloody personal assistants.

When i see people like Lady Gaga on the internet in airports with her entourage I can't help but cringe at them all wearing sunglasses and walking as if they are a star themselves.

The ones who do it, are they just basically wanting to be famous themselves and pretend that all the paparazzi taking pictures is of them not the major star right next to them?

Personal things such as calling your bank etc, liasing with lawyers. If you're on tour all the time as Gaga is, you really don't have the time. They don't get paid for nothing. Well...in some cases

The things the rest of us do ourselves while working full time, looking after kids (those of you who have kids), looking after our homes etc etc?

Yes, but if you're in a studio in the morning, rehearsing all afternoon and singing live all night, you really don't have the time. Also, your job is to sing tbh. Not to be a manager. These people have roles for reasons. Sometimes people take it too far though. It's like your PA would make sure that your wishes are done etc. Generally though a manager is similar to a PA (at the start of a career).

Gaga and the like are effectively the heads of multi-million dollar companies, though. Would we expect a CEO to not have an assistant/secretary? PA's may do bitch work like coffee rounds and whatnot, but they also act as middle men/filtration between the star and everyone trying to contact them (management, label, touring organisers, PR, TV people, photographers, interviewers, accountants etc.), they maintain a schedule and organise day to day things like flights and hotel bookings.

If you're an artist, then you'd have to deal with all of the above in addition to actually doing what you're supposed to do: writing the music, performing, creating, and of course physically promoting on tv/radio shows etc.

Well it's true. I don't see the likes of Jimmy Page having someone wipe his arse for him.

I always thought the sunglasses were on because of the paparazzi's camera flashes, and it might be quite blinding if there are alot of camera's taking your pictures directly in front of you as you are walking.

Therefore having a PA makes you talentless?

Oh, you're one of those.

Popstars can't even do their own shopping... let alone write their own music.

In particular

As Jimmy Page's valet, personal assistant and a member of Led Zeppelin's road crew
It's very common for somebody in the entertainment industry to have a PA. Nothing wrong with it.

I don't see what's wrong with it. These singers must be very busy, if they're not performing live or having an interview then they could be recording new material, filming videos, rehearsing, planning future shows/performances/videos and so on. There isn't at all enough time for them to do everything themselves.
