Just would like to say I'm pleased that the music buying public actually put an excellent and well deserved song in at number one in the charts at last, 31 Years later to the day almost.

R.I.P.

Si!

Ah but will it still be there next week or will it be replaced by the equally resplendant A1 as a new entry?

I think Britney Spears, Afroman and Enrique Iglesias will have more of a chance of being no. 1 than A1.

I'm sorry but i don't agree with the sympathy charts at the moment. If George Harrison was still alive, would he be number 1,no.

For the second week running, a tribute song gets to number1.Pink should have been number 1, like last week when Dr Dre should have been number 1. In my opinion, it's just not right.

Its not even a good song - no surprise it made No. 1 then!

There are far better records that could have been released as a tribute to George Harrison.

A who? This shite may be popular in the states or wherever theyre from[Ive never even heard a song by them luckily]but ask any 10 year old girl about them and chances are theyll know as much as I do about them.It would be great if Crazy Rap by Afroman did get to number 1,but its unlikely. The UKs record buyers were quick to snap up the banal Cos I Got High[v funny at first but by the fifth hearing it starts to grate]but chances are theyll shun his class new track.
And I agree with Hutchio-Dr Dres new 1 is CLASS and deserved number 1.Of course the wallies who buy the records have let it slip to number 10.No disrespect seeing as shes dead but the Aaliyah song was actually no good when you think about it.,Sorry but I really think it was just some kind of sympathy buying.

It's probably better than the manufactured band/Bob the Builder charts that we have been inflicted to over the last months.

To answer your question, no he probably wouldn't be #1 with My Sweet Lord if he was still alive, but he could have made number one with a song he wrote and performed himself. Not in a band voted for by TV viewers and written by someone else, played by another group of people and voices altered by a machine in a recording studio. And maybe we could have seen a decent live performance on TOTP's!

No, it's not right when a poor song makes number one for that reason alone, but then I don't consider the Allstars at this week's No9 with their abysmal cover of 'Land Of Make Believe' to be 'right', either; the charts have been riddled with this sort of thing for a long time.

When you think about it, the two biggest selling singles in this country are sympathy songs, namely Candle In The Wind 97 (Death of Princess Di) and Do They Know It's Christmas (Ethiopian famine), neither of which I consider to be particularly good songs.

At least the continued devaluation of the music charts by poor sales means that it can all be taken with a large pinch of salt.

Whilst I agree that Do They Know it's Christmas was not a musical highpoint, I personally feel it was a good song, it got across a message, and maybe made people think that there are other people in this world a lot worse of than we are.

I remember the images of people in those camps and even to this day whenever Do They Know comes on the radio I get those images in my mind and a lump in my throat.

Dre got to number 4. So he'd have been number 3 if Aaliyah didn't get released. So that, my friend is what we call a none point.

and Harrison's track is a charity single so its for a good cause. Good on the people who brought it.

Both singles for charity like Harrison's.
Aaliyah's was released to make plan old hard currency.

Indeed, that's primarily the reason why it sold so many and people still like it to this day, because of what it represents, rather than the quality of the song, and I'm sure My Sweet Lord falls into the same category as it represents the life and being of George Harrison at this particular time.

While it wouldn't have reached no. 1, Aaliyah's More than a Woman would still have been released if she was alive. George Harrison wouldn't have released a single either way.

My sweet lord is a classic track. So I don't wanna be hearing any disrespectin! It was a classic even when the legend of george was alive.
This is coming from a drum 'n' bass dj.
All you disrepecting fools shut up! George can wipe the floor with the crappy likes of pink and afrodude. Go back to your namby pamby chart singles, and give it a rest.
The charts don't represent the UK music scene at all these days, the only people that buy singles are 11 year old kids, and people that know no better!
If you want a decent representation of british taste, take a look at the album charts.
Even radio 1 aint representin these days. That's why we get so much pirate radio.

My sweet lord is a true classic. It will always be a classic.

I’ve always been pleased that My Sweet Lord was number one on the day I was born – January 30 1971, just a pity it didn’t hold on for one more week so it would have been number one on my 31st birthday – a great song, from a great album by a great man.
