If this trailer really nails the essence of the character, viewers may get to see the *ultimate* action hero. The meanest, toughest hero of them all. You think Batman is tough? Judge Dredd makes The Dark Knight look like a boy scout! Judge Dredd is the law and you better believe it, creep.
Huge expectation on this trailer to deliver the goods! ![]() Prepare to be judged, lawbreakers. |

I reckon this film is 50:50 on being decent.
If the trailer and film look as bad as the patrol wagons: http://2000ad.files.wordpress.com/20...2-01.jpg?w=627 ...this film is going to be an epic disaster. Those pickup trucks are wrong in every possible way. The filmmakers couldn't even be bothered to add some weapons to them. Judges do not patrol the mean steets of Mega-City 1 in 20th century pickup trucks! ![]() This scene also has me concerned about the look of the film: http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content...dd_still_3.jpg The scene looks so empty like they couldn't afford any set dressing. Rather crappy. However... and this is the biggest 'however' I can muster.... if the rest of the film looks reasonably sci-fi and other elements work, acting, pace of story, action scenes, it might be okay. A day to wait until the trailer hits the net. |

^I do hope they don't screw up the suit, cos from that milisecond not-very-clear clip where we see it, well he looks simply like a leather clad biker. - though if John Wagner gave it the bigthumbsup then I ain't worried. - thanx for the clip btw

Sadly, a standard definition version was leaked before the official HD version - out at 5pm today. The HD version is going to look so much better than the lower res SD version. I'm reserving judgement until I see the HD version.

I dunno. The city looks wrong to me. The buildings aren't big enough or close enough together and the vehicles are too much like today's.

Very stylised trailer and the plot is basically The Raid isn't it? They have to get all the way to the top of the block to reach the enemy. Thought it looked decent enough anyway.

Still can't shake the glowing recommendation by John Wagner - in that I'm not wallowing in any "oh that doesn't look quite right" stuff because JDs creator gave it the

Trailer looks ok (if using exactly the same sound effects/editing as every other 'big movie' trailer)
The plot is very uninspiring though, not like they didn't have enough source material to work with is it? |

But why? Setting stuff in the "near future" always lends itself to "it will never be like that in 10 years" etc. To me it seems odd that they didn't just stick with the 100 odd years in the future of the comic book Dredd universe.
Although I have to say I do like Urban's Dredd Snarl. |

The budget is around 45 million dollars so they decided to stick the action in one location to keep costs down. A more complex storyline would probably cost a lot more and fans would moan if more scenes were shot outside in the city and it looked too modern. Also, they're trying to appeal to a mass worldwide audience, not the 2000AD readers. Most people won't know that much about Dredd's huge 35 years backstory so the producers are hoping the Die Hard-ish type plot won't matter. Die Hard is a cool action film and The Raid got good reviews too. From what I understand, Dredd's screenplay was written *before* The Raid got made so the similarities are purely coincidental. |

I like the trailer. Does it look EPIC, no. But looks like they worked with what they had and focused on the story. Has me excited for the movie.

Epic would cost 150 - 200 or more dollars. They didn't have that amount. It's not financed by a major US studio. The first film had a huge budget for its time but even that could only create a few roads. Judge Dredd is so high concept sci-fi. If you did a proper version it would cost millions - Avatar/Star Wars prequels type budget and scale - and if it flopped that would kill off the character for another 20 or more years!
