Age of reality show contestants

Holly Steel will appear soon on Channel 5 news tonight talking about the new rules coming into place that will put a lower age limit on reality show contestants.

It sounds like we will soon see the end of 11 or 12 year olds eing allowed to enter

Is there a link to this interview?

And in terms of the rules, I wonder why they are basing it on just two occurences. But the Daily Mail claims that the shows will need licenses for kids to appear on the show: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...=feeds-newsxml

Can't find a clip yet and it's not on 5 demand service but tbh she didn't come over very well at all. Incredibly shy still and very nervous to be on live television. Her father did more of the interview than she did and all the time she was looking straight at the camera and around the studio at the lights and things so not much has changed in 3 years

I have been keeping up with her, and she hasn't really performed in front of such a massive audience since BGT and she isn't known that much anymore, would that have anything to do with it? And is it on 5 demand now?

It's all politicians trying to make themselves appear in touch. The children in the show already require and get a licence from their local authority. All they are proposing is the same continues

What they're proposing is that the licencing system is standardised throughout the country, rather than each authority applying its own criteria. I think that's fair enough - the same criteria should apply to every child, regardless of which authority they're applying to.

They're also going to scrap the mandatory medical certificate (though still giving the authorities the power to request that the child has a medical examination if they feel it's necessary). I'm not sure about that. Given that pushy parents tend not to let illness get in the way of their child's path to stardon, it's probably not wise to make it easier for them. Anyone who saw the Channel 4 documentary Baby Ballroom will have seen the mother who admitted on camera that her child had a kidney infection, but was still going to compete in the dance competition because "She dances with her feet, not her kidneys!" and the little girl with a back injury, who was advised not to dance for two weeks to allow it to heal...but performed anyway!
