I hope so!

I would have preferred that she die, but if she does turn out to be "f**ktarded" as Pam suggested, then that could be amusing...

Whilst I tend to agree with the clear distinction between the books and TV show, they do retain certain storylines, that play out. So for example the death of Debbie Pelt. I like how they link in certain stories, rather than trying to go with every story line.

It wouldn't shock me to see Amelia turn up with Bob at some point, though the reasons why would be different, but it has that comedic element that the TV show likes.

A great season opener just hope it continues that way and doesn't slip back into season 4 crappyness

The whole Tara thing, is a good opportunity to reboot one of the least popular characters, so fingers crossed that works out!

Steve as a vampire was funny, don't see him lasting for long though.

Jessica hot as ever

Really enjoying the Bill/Eric double act, they are much more interesting without Sookie getting in the way

Lycanthrope (sp?) society is really messed up!

I do enjoy True Blood but I'm so relieved that Alan Ball didn't get his hands on Game of Thrones because the TV Series of True Blood bears not even the slightest resemblance to the Books. It works with True Blood, because the books were getting ever weaker anyway, but huge changes would have destroyed GoT.

I am so confuse reading this thread. I watched season 5 episode 1......am I not up to date? Some of the things I seem to have missed like:

Spoiler

Don't mind that I've been spoiled if I have but can someone just clarify if I missed part of the episode or have I missed an entire episode?

Thanks in advanced,

The last 5 minutes of the final episode of season 4, would tie these storylines up into some understanding. Though one of them is explained more in this episode than the last one.

What's the last thing you remember happening to Tara?

If it was her getting shot then you've missed a whole episode.

Not sure what you mean.

That the Rev came out was all there in his talk with Jason, "I'm a gay vampire American". If you mean was the fact that he was gay stated when he was alive a couple of series back then no, not really, though there might have been the odd sly glance. Nor were we aware he had been turned until he turned up with a story of his sire doing so as punishment and running away. Umm, wonder who that was...

As for Tara being turned you must of missed a hell of a lot of the episode if you missed Pam being begged to turn her, bargaining a deal, feeding her blood, being buried in velour, hugging her, complaining about dirt in her bra and so on.

If you mean the actual event then after it initially looked like the attempt had failed, it happened in the last minute before the credits. The shock cliffhanger ending was Tara rushing towards a screaming Sookie.

(Didn't feel the need to spoiler anything as this was all clearly in the episode)

The shipping container scene was certainly a long way from BBC1 Saturday Teatime family viewing

Thanks! Last thing I saw was her getting shot so missed an episode lol! How did that happen though? I thought it started last night?

Ok I've been pondering for about ten mins now and after much googling I've decided I'm an absolute dork and have watched season 4 episode 12 (finale) thinking how action packed it was for a season opener. I spent snippets of the episode thinking how familiar it seemed no flipping wonder cos I'd watched it all less than a year ago! Damn online streaming for naming the episode wrong!

On the upside....ive got another fresh episode of TB to watch now!!!

(you can stop laughing now)

Agree. The mother eating her son was like

I think Steve will get killed off somewhere between episode 5 - 7 LOL

BTW Does anyone know who the big bad villain is this season

Season 1 - Serial Killer
Season 2 - Mynard Women
Season 3 - Russell
Season 4 - Antonia
Season 5 - ???? Is it Russell again? Or the fairy witch.

No - Tara is a pretty minor character in the books.

While she is Sookie's best friend, and had a troubled childhood, in the books she owns a shop called Tara's Togs which Sookie frequents for all of her special occasion dresses/ outfits

Although Charlaine Harris doesn't spell it out - you get the impression that book Tara is a successful white businesswoman, although struggling a bit financially in the later books due to marrying the lovable but dopey JB duRone and having twins.

She did however have a short lived relationship with Eggs Benedict (again implied that he was white) in Book 2 (Eggs was killed in the meanad attack on the orgy) and another with Franklin Mott who was a successful vampire businessman in Jackson. The book Franklin - who was almost just mentioned in passing - passed her on to Mickey (who is much more like the TV Franklin) to pay a debt.

She definitely wasn't a loudmouthed argumentative black woman who is cousin to Lafayette who died early on in Book 2. In fact the book Tara and the TB Tara are two completely different characters who bear no resemblance to each other.

There is also no mention of the likes of Jessica, Jesus, MaryAnn (the book maenad is called Callisto), the Mickens family, Marcus Bozeman and a lot of other characters in the show, whilst book characters don't even rate a mention, Characters who appear in the books until much later in the series (eg Sophie Ann, Claudine) have been already been killed off, and some who play major parts in the books havent been shown at all

Arlene is also a very different character in the show. In the books she turns to the Fellowship of the Sun and ends up in a relationship with one of their bigwigs, and is party to a murder attempt on Sookie

I am told that a lot of characters in the TV series are a lot more white trash than their book equivalent

Another major change was the identity of Eric's sire, who also lived a lot longer in the books than in the series.

I loved the premiere! I guess I'm the only one (on this thread anyway) who didn't want Tara to die; in fact she's my favourite character. I love how upfront she is (or was), and I feel that she actually told the truth about others, even if it wasn't in the most articulate way! I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how her new state plays out.

I wonder ifTara's girlfriend will come back and be killed by her?? Making Tara crazy?

I do think this is Tara's last season and if gonna die for sure. The fans just don't like her from the message boards etc but I always thought she was interesting.

The one thing I love about Alan Ball is that he doesn't seem to be one of those writers who panders to fan demands, which means if Tara is killed off, it'll be more because either the actress wants to move on or AB will think that the character's story has come to it's natural conclusion rather than a small minority of online fans who don't like Tara.

Never thought about that-it would be interesting, but I guess it depends on the availability of the actress, unless they recast. Personally I think the door has pretty much shut on that. I agree that a lot of fans don't like her, but there must be a lot who do; over 5 million people in the U.S alone watch it, so everyone has their faves, and they don't all use the Internet in general, let alone message boards. But yes, I always thought she was interesting too, although I pretty much touched upon that in my previous post.

I think like a lot of people who have read the books - I have a picture in my mind of what certain characters look like, and whilst True Blood has got a lot of them right (Eric (in particular), Bill, Alcide, Sam, Lafayette (before he was killed off in book 2),etc etc some just don't look anything LIKE my mental image - Anna Pacquin is not my idea of Sookie -who is described as a short very busty blonde with long blonde hair - in fact Kristin Bauer (Pam) is my imagined Sookie!

TB Tara is so different from boook Tara that a lot of people have difficulty relating to her.

Right I've caught up and watched season 5 episode 1 I'm no longer confused!

I hope turning Tara revives her too she got on my wick last season.

Eric and Nora..... Bit of vampire incest for a weeknight!

Pam is classic as usual, will be interested how she gets on with Nora. Loved pams Walmart track suit comment.

Sookie wasn't half as annoying as usual, glad her and lafayettes stories have kind of come back together, I like them when they are all together or in Merlots - last season felt disjointed stories and not enough of the gang together.

Jessica got really good fun too!
