Metal Gear Solid 1 would make for an outstanding film.

Can't believe I'm the first one to suggest Halo.
Wouldn't like Mass Effect as a film. Think it would be better suited to a TV series. Kind of like an updated Babylon 5. |

I have to agree with others, Films based on games NEVER work, just look at Max Payne and Hitman, both games with brilliant characters and stories just RIGHT THERE and yet Hollywood still manages to screw it up!
Happy that Microsoft fought hard with Halo, so much that the project ended up being canceled due to "creative differences" because Hollywood wanted more control over the film like they usually do. |

Halo would have to much going on for the casual viewer lol, wait which race are the bad guys? What is this parasite that infects everything? Were did it come from? Wait now the elites are good guys? Can we not see his face? Wait the ring was a weapon but it looks like a planet? I could go on lol

A lot of people saying mass effect, one person even suggesting it would work as a tv show
I'm 100% against this, the whole idea is you play in your way, as soon as shepard makes his first decision it will ruin it for a lot of the audience who yell about how their shepard wouldn't do that An expanded universe might work, possibly following James from the third game both before and after the third game could work, but getting across so many races in a 2 hours period would be tough, i'd support a tv show as long as shepard and the normandy are never featured |

I don't think the bioshock movie is going to happen anymore. I'll try and find the link to the story but I believe the studios pulled the plug as the budget was about to hit £200 million

My take on why games shouldn't be made into films.
Games are about user interaction, take that away from any game mentioned in this thread and that game is dead, obviously. Not a good basis for a film I'm sure you'd agree. Hollywood have my sympathy when trying to make these films. It obviously doesn't work from past experience, at best they produce mediocre flix that are only just watchable, (once) just a bad money making idea imo. GTA as film? OMG no!!
