Foxsat HDR - one tuner working only intermittently

Hi - recently I've noticed that my Foxsat HDR has developed a number of problems.

1. One of the tuners seems to work only intermittently. I've checked the connections and they seem fine. However, how do you tell if it's a cable problem or whether it's a box problem?

2. When I get the above problem, the diagnostics option is often greyed out, so I can't check the tuners.

3. The third very annoying problem relates only to the recording of Star Trek: Next Gen on CBS Action. The box appears to record the episodes, but when I select play from start, the episode will often jump to a later point - often more than half way through - and can't be rewound to the start, even the progress bar shows the full time of the programme as having been recorded.

Anyone else had these problems?

The machine is only I think three years old.

You can't get into diagnostics if the box is recording.

Firstly check the two connections are secure.

It's worth trying a factory reset before anything else (this will check for two cables and say two cables found)

If only one switch the inputs and repeat.

To check if the box is set to two cable working.

Open the setup menu.

Press in succession

RED GREEN YELLOW BLUE GREEN YELLOW BLUE

you should get a secret menu.

Check Antenna Type - Fixed Antenna
Check connection type - TwoCable(same).

If wrong correct to the above.

How to check both tuners are working in two cable mode.

Start an instant recording on BBC1-HD, start a second on BBC-HD, tune to a selection of other channels and see if you can live pause them all.

Thanks for the help but the problem is that sometimes the box records fine on two tuners and sometimes it doesn't - so it's the intermittent nature of the problem that has me foxed.

I didn't know you couldn't access the diagnostics option when the box is recording so that's good to know.

You also seem to be saying you can record two things and watch a third, which I didn't know - is that only if the two channels being recorded are on the same mux?

Any thoughts on the other problems?

Only one tuner is required to record two channels from the same transponder. The second is free to watch anything.

When recording two from different transponders you can watch any third channel sharing a transponder with either recording.

If your Foxsat-hdr is in single cable mode then even though you have two cables the box will only let you watch record channels in the same frequency band (high/low) and polarisation (H/V) as tuner 1 is using, hence the advice to check the connection mode.
